David Fincher has always been recognized as one of the best thriller/suspense directors of this generation, and "Zodiac" is just one of his great films. The film is without a doubt a long film, but the suspense and the on-going investigation on the identity of the killer really makes you forget the time. Robert Downey Jr, Jake Gyllenhaal and Mark Ruffalo do an excellent job portraying their respective characters. Definately recommended if you like the genre, if you don't have patience for investigaton movies..then don't watch this.

Zodiac was a well-made, but ultimately not very thrilling, crime drama. The characters are uninteresting and thrown aside in favour of the story, a series of events which sometimes feel like reading a journal because of the constant time skips. I know that the story's scope is pretty large, but despite the film's length, it still isn't able to concentrate much on any of the events before necessarily moving on. This would have worked much better as a TV series, as it would have allowed for each incident to be explored in more detail and the gaps between them to feel less awkward.

“THIS IS THE ZODIAC SPEAKING”.

David Fincher's masterpiece "Zodiac" turns 10 years old today and it still scares me. In my opinion, it's my favorite David Fincher film. Just the little details that went into re-creating the crime scenes and the overall feel of it. I was surprised to find out how much CGI was in the movie, as it blended so well with the environment it was set in.

There are so many great scenes in this movie that I can't name it all. But that basement scene was just nightmare fuel. It scares me more than any horror movie and it's not even a horror film. The cinematography, the sound, the directing, and Gyllenhaal performance was so excellent. The same goes for the rest of the movie.

The story of Zodiac is compelling in itself. Add in some great performances by Robert Downey Jr, Jake Gyllenhaal and Mark Ruffalo and you have an extremely interesting film. In particular Jake Gyllenhaal's chacter's journey from interest to obsession draws into th wworld of Zodiac.

I suppose the only other thing to say given his performance in this film is 'when is Mark Ruffalo going to make a Columbo film?'

this is definitely one of the best crime/serial killer films i've seen. it doesn't lose itself in the suspence, keeping it pretty straight forward most of the time, while still making your heart race in big moments all throughout. PERFECT ending. Jake and Mark need to be working together more often, they absolutely CRUSHED this film. 100% want to rewatch at some point.

9/10

This is long but gripping the entire time. David Fincher put so much effort into making this feel real. Jake Gyllenhaal and Mark Ruffalo both give terrific performances.

This film should've been called "Robert Graysmith" because that's who it's about. Fincher has style, but the only worthwhile aspect of this film is to showcase Jake Gyllenhaal and remind us that Mark Ruffalo is extremely talented and wasting his gift as the Hulk.

This film doesn't have the pull it should to keep the audience for almost three hours. Maybe I wasn't watching it with 100% of my attention, but characters, especially the police ones, are thrown into the story mix without much justifying their roles. Too many things are taken for granted and are not explained, but vaguely implied, "sujet supposé savoir" kind of thing, which is not encouraging for the viewer. Without knowing that Robert Graysmith is the one who wrote the book, so that's the reason his character is important, you'd be left wondering for more than half of the film of why is this guy so important as a mere observer to solving a crime.

I love films based around newsrooms and their portrayal of real events, but Zodiac's perspectives, journalists' and detectives' points of view, got quickly muddled. I have a feeling this adaptation from the book could've been done better, with more care for clarity, fluidity, narrative building and dramatic crescendos/decrescendos.

The movie is less and less about the notorious serial-killer, and more about the descent of three men into madness; the unraveling of their obsessions. David Fincher employs tracking shots so meticulous, that they soon become invisible yet a very integral part of his filmography.

One interesting tidbit I noticed was that
the story of the Zodiac killer starts and ends with the same song
— Hurdy Gurdy Man, by Donovan. Everything comes full circle, and the keen watcher definitely gets the closure he deserves.

It's long, but watchable atleast once.
