Miruthan is the first mainstream Tamil Zombie movie and happily blends old tropes from the genre together with the local traditions... yes, there are songs in this! With the novelity at work I found it to be mostly a fun experience but I can't say that I am interested in its' sequel. What was actually the most offputting thing for me was the treatement of the "love interest" (and I'm not even a feminist). In most of the scenes where she is alone (and without her boyfriend) she appears to be independent and strong willed but in all the others she is just reverted to a damsel or background decoration.
