@tiger451966 Can you elaborate? It's hard to consider your negative opinion more highly than its positive counterparts due to how concise it is.

Very enjoyable indeed. Binged the lot and it was a blast.

You need to like mystery, sci-fi, subtitles (heavily used as there are migrants going to America) and having said that you need to be engaged continually to keep up.

There were a couple things that griped me, but it's more personal. I'm getting quite frustrated by the lead actor (not only in this show but others too), that has a husky voice and on top of that she is a quiet talker and whispers 90% of the time making it very hard to hear her especially the way these shows are mixed, always seems to have higher than normal background noise or music. It isn't all the women actors. Just damn annoying.

Then there are the predictables. But all in all the season engaged me, the actors held my attention.
The beetle... interesting. My overall rating for this season would be 8.5/10

**[1899] - Season One: _8/10_** *(Great)*
___

>“What we know is a drop. What we don’t know is an ocean”

While “1899” differs greatly from the show Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese had previously developed, it is nevertheless excellent science fiction. The show has stunning visuals, an atmospheric score, and a baffling mystery that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It’s impossible to look away from an episode because of your immersion in its reality. The acting is decent, especially from Emily Beecham and Andreas Pietschmann. Fans of “Dark” or those who love a Sci-Fi mystery will definitely like this. Without giving too much away, I’d say it’s an amalgamation of some of the finest science fiction from the 21st century, yet it all comes together nicely. I can see how the first season’s ending would disappoint some, but anybody who has followed this pair for any length knows they are keeping their biggest surprise for the very end. All the pieces are in place for an epic season two; everyone who worked on this show deserves a big round of applause. I can’t wait for what season two brings!

Great looking visuals, fantastic score and background sounds. Lots of eye and ear candy for home theatre systems. If you like shows about existentialism this show is da bomb!
I kept hearing Tom Cruise from Vanilla Sky shouting "Tech Support" in my mind every time I heard or read "wake up" lol.
I loved how the underlying mystery was teased out, with little breadcrumbs strewn throughout the series. Great characters, relationships, backstories and storytelling. Very reminiscent of Lost with lots of nods and tropes to/from other sci fi classics. I wasn't sure what kind of show this was going to be, but was pleasantly surprised to find out how deep this story runs.

@kuuzo Sarcasm it's always one in the bunch. Not amazingly good but with nothing to do for the day I might as well finished it up, it's not like the writers going to let you know in the 1st 2 or 3 episodes it was terrible right?

@tiger451966 Sarcasm doesn't translate well on the internet, because there are a lot of morons who say a lot of contradicting things, while occasionally sounding smart.

so disappointing, whole Matrix II level with big words sentences with no meaning just science on your face and fancy terms that make no sense just to make you feel dumb and that this is a great show sci-fi. But it all collapses through the awful ending. MY GOD why did they do that so un-creative and copy paste "Life On Mars" ending. You know why ? Because they didn't know how to explain all the things, so the only nice way out of there and take that viewer was that explanation.

8 hours gone out of the window.
If i read another blog "1899 totaly blows the mind of its viewers netflix has done it again" i will cancel my Internet connection.

@kuuzo yes I’ve seen Dark and there is no comparison and no they didn’t get it right. If you have seen all episodes I’m totally surprised how you say that. They get the easy way out since they couldn’t explain anything

@great_vc For me, it started pretty nice and interesting but I also felt that they lost vision in the depths they were fishing in. There are things that are hard to comprehend, like those ship survivors being told that this was not real, and them insisting that it was even though weird (data?) spikes are coming out of each wall and people walking around like zombies, and teleportations and other funny things happening.

There are of course some catchy tunes but even they are way too mainstream, and often a bit blunt. Dark, for me, had more consistent depth and creative ideas that were thought through to the end. I feel like they wanted to fill the void that Dark's absence left but simply failed at it. It happens.

So I totally agree with your findings.

This show is very good, some of the acting is a little wooden, but it's light years ahead of La Brea on every front.

Lots of mystery, (think Lost), setting is great,. writing is solid.

I think I'm still suffering from shock at how back La Brea is.

Another Netflix fail. More woke, more stretched out stories, more pointless subplots. Can’t believe that White Rabbit is connected to this junk. No matter how hard it tries, Netflix can’t come close to Stranger Things.

@gordongessler
This should've been in the trailer: “In a world where 2 guys go at it on a ship in the year 1899 and people who believe in God are all cult extremists.” Oh, and they must ensure that the admirable characters are portrayed as oppressed victims of society.

There's nothing wrong with a story that has these elements, but when it is meaningless and adds nothing, it's obvious woke propaganda.

I'd say this is definitely less good than Dark but I'm excited to see where this goes. I have to say though the fact that the main characters speak like 5 different languages is confusing af and basically pointless. I don't understand why they did this.

From the minds behind “Dark,” one of television’s finest shows, comes “1899.” My expectations for it are sky-high. Even if it only manages to get close to Dark in quality, it will be an impressive feat. Can’t wait!
