Was really looking forward to this. after loving the movie. It's ok, but I doubt it could be more WOKE if it tried. I mean, every lead character turns out to be gay, which is kinda beating the viewer with the WOKE stick a little too much! It's more about the relationships and less about the baseball, which is a not what I expected. Also the two lead characters for the Peaches look well into their 30's too old to be playing, really. Also not a big fan of period incorrect music being used. There are plenty of great tunes from the 40s they could use, instead of the much more modern stuff played in a lot of sequences. Very disappointing, if you loved the original.

@trevskie In female athletics, a huge percentage of the athletes are gay. This isn't being "woke," it's just representing reality. I guess you probably at least were able to enjoy the fact they had to be in the closet though.

@trevskie it's like you are literally in my head! 100% agree. ditto. ditto. SO disappointed with this; each episode has become more and more unwatchable. The not-even-period-adjacent music (Janis Joplin, Runaways......) is just weird! I know they are all WOKE but I don't need to be clobbered over the head for 50 minutes non-stop!!!

@trevskie The amount of women in the actual league that later came out of the closet is staggering. Maybe they were trying to, idk, represent reality? That's not woke. That's just storytelling.

@evelinafelicia This! Plus, the inspiration for the film/series came out herself very recently after a very long time: https://www.insider.com/league-of-their-own-player-comes-out-95-years-old-2022-6.

What a far cry from the movie!!! This series was more about the relationships than the baseball. There was to much emphasize on the same sex relationships, which I bet Rosie O'Donnell enjoyed. She was much better as Doris in the movie. The black pitcher storyline was intriguing, but wish she would have been more involded with the Peaches storyline. If there is a second season, I won't be watching. I just found out on Trakt that there was a comedy by the same name in the early 2000's that I might checkout. Bottom Line: The movie is one of my all-time favorites, and I will watch it again soon. If you loved the movie, you will be disappointed with this sereis.

Watched it all in practically one sitting! I love the movie, but this isn’t the movie. Any one caught up on that won’t appreciate this fun show. I wasn’t looking for a retelling of the original movie. So I was delightfully surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Very much loved that they included black and latina storylines! Something the movie could just nod their cap to without addressing any racial issues.

There was a heavy queer element which for me was amazing. Very much appreciate how many homos played because hello they did.

I think it also highlights the disparity between men and women rights. Like fuck they couldn’t even have bank accounts!!! Not that long ago, damn.

Watch it!

My wife and I got 3 episodes in, realized that there is noting about the movie related to this except they used the same team (Rockford Peaches). The heart, the soul, the point is lost completely in this farce. They could save it, if they made it about baseball and the life these woman led, instead they focused on 2 main lesbian relationships with a shot of baseball here and there.

The other thing, they cast woman who look very similar to those from the movies, then completely omitted the 2 main characters from the show... I mean, wtf...

[Prime Video] What it does, it does well, but it's not what it promised. The 1992 film is an excuse for a more sentimental than humorous exploration of the queer community in the 40s, but one that has little to do with Penny Marshall's film. The male coach disappears in episode 3 because this is mostly a story of girls. But in the end, Max Chapman's racial plot is more interesting than the Women's Baseball League.

Unlike many others here I have never even heard of the movie with the same title. I found this accidentally through twitter and thought, "huh lesbians and I recognize some actresses so I guess I should watch it". But man, oh man!!! I did not expect to like it this much?? It actually has a good plot which is shocking to be quite honest! Also, people are complaining about it being woke because there are lesbians while so many TV shows have only straight people, and no one bats an eye. C'mon now, let us have one show with lesbian leads! It's still extremely rare to find a show with so many lesbian characters and with lesbian protagonists...
Anyways, this show made me want to learn how to play baseball :^) Great A+++ show, funny as hell, emotional, and still manages to hit some relevant topics about racism, sexism, and homophobia. I truly hope it gets renewed for another season!!
