You want to know what this show is? Really? It's a detective show with standalone cases, with a serialized look at the likeable and street-wise lead detective's personal life. This show is melancholic realism with a sprinkle of optimism, exemplified perfectly by the theme tune. This old detective has been through a lot of personal struggles, and his life is often filled with things that just don't work out, yet his realism of the world and his detective role remains. He has a duty to try and arrest criminals and make life safer for people. It's not just a duty, it's been his life, and what he's best at, though it's made him a workaholic. Though his personal life is filled with failures, he at least knows he can excell in his work, catching criminals as the great detective he is.

I have now watched the entire run of A Touch of Frost, stretching over 15 seasons and twenty years, which is quite an achievement for any drama show. To be honest, I never really connected with the lead character in the way I did Vera or Jimmy Perez on Shetland. It was the storylines that impressed More
