WOW. This is a masterpiece of storytelling. The casting was stellar and the performances were magical. The cinematography captured the grittiness of occupied France and the horrors of the invaders were on full display. If I have any complaints in the storytelling they might be twofold, all Germans were portrayed as the darkest of evil (I don’t believe it was that black and white) and the connection between Werner and Marie was a little too much of a rushed fairytale at the end. But, the whole was a wonderful romantic journey, in the classical sense of the power of lofty ideals rather than in human attraction. I give this limited series a 9 (superb) out of 10. [Historical Drama]

Maybe a bit foolish of me but I was really hoping the characters would be speaking their native language. It would hit so much harder hearing this in german and french instead of a weird mix of a bunch of english accents.

My Wife read the book and I had not, so we went in with different perspectives on things. First, we both immediately agreed how great it was to see Hugh Laurie speak without an accent (while he is masterful at them), but Mark Ruffalo's accident was very distracting and I really like him in the role, but they should have cast someone native. The story was very intriguing, and I truly enjoyed it, meanwhile my wife had some things to say in comparison between the two mediums, but overall it was well worth the watch.

If you have not read the book, I think this would be thoroughly enjoyable. Unfortunately I have read the book (several times) & was thoroughly disappointed.
