Its a story that has been reimagined countless times.

There are some clear political messages in here (not really hidden) that weren't in the original work, but I don't think it hurt the story.

I think this is an amazing piece. I don't want something that is just like the original - copies are boring - I want something that catches the spirit of the original and I think they did a splendid job of doing that.

Ms. Fix is an added character that actually makes sense and David Tennant - one of the most talented actors alive - does an excellent job of portraying Phileas Fogg.

A brilliant adaptation of the classic with some twists that in my opinion do not harm the history. I would go as far as it improves it, but again that is just my opinion.

It is for me the best adaptation I've seen of Jules Verne's book. The characters are well cast, so if you like adventure, drama and a little comedy don't miss this show.

@jeaneats Nothing like a cheesy rom-com :-D And speaking about it, have you seen "A Discovery of Witches" - https://trakt.tv/shows/a-discovery-of-witches? If so do you like it?

@tgvlx You know what... I don't knowingly mess with stuff that has to do with witches and the devil... so this wasn't on my radar at all. Is it good? I see you watched Good Sam, what did you think? I was so excited about it and the first episode was a little slow for me. I'm going to watch a few more episodes so see if I'm sticking with it or not.

@jeaneats Regarding A Discovery of Witches, I like it, but I do like this type of shows invoking witches and paranormal, but the show is basically about the love between 2 different creatures a Witch and Vampire.
I liked episode 2 more than 1, but it's still a rather slow paced show, could be good. Sometimes you can fall in love with a show because it's actors and I like Jason Isaacs. So i'm giving it a chance.

@tgvlx Now I don't mind the vampire movies... I watched all the Twilight movies (because I'm corny like that lol). Interesting take that it's about witches and vampires falling in love! I'm glad we're on the same page with Good Sam... I was thinking the father would be more like Hugh Laurie on House but that's definitely not the case. I do like him though... just hoping the pace gets better.

@jeaneats Well I'm not ashamed to say I liked Twilight movies, I also saw True Blood and Vampire Diaries lol
Definitely the Good Sam could have that Dr. House feeling, see ep.2 and let me know what you think.

@tgvlx Okay I just finished watching Good Sam. It wasn't bad, it still is lagging somewhere. Just doesn't have the flow like The Good Doctor, New Amsterdam, or The Resident. I want to like it though, so I'm sticking with it.

@jeaneats For sure. I have yet to pick up on New Amsterdam, will binge during Easter vacation.
If you have time give this a look. https://trakt.tv/shows/wolf-like-me , I've been stuck watching it, the episodes are short but it's a delightful rom-com with a twist.

@tgvlx I'm so late with my response... I apologize! I keep hearing a lot about Wolf Like Me... I just added it to my list! I've been stuck catching up on The Good Fight and When Calls The Heart (I'm a sucker for that one lol). And I still don't know who talked me into watching Celebrity Big Brother since I've never had an interest in it before... but I had to see it to the end lol.

I have yet to understand why the entertainment business always feel the need to “update” the literary classics when they try to dramatize them. It's been a few years since I last read the Jules Vern classic, but I seem to remember that Fix was the name of the Scotland Yard Detective that was hunting Fogg because he thought he was a bank robber, not a woman journalist traveling companion. What I can't seem to remember is a black Passepartout. Nor was it all this political commentary that this "version" have in each and every episode. I also believe that the fellow Fogg wagered the 20k with was named Stuart, not Bellamy. To be honest, there's almost nothing in this series that Mr. Verne actually wrote, apart from a few names.

Then..

Why not change the names of the characters and call it something else?!!!?

...because this is certainly NOT Jules Verne's Around the World in Eighty Days.

[NRK] An entertaining adaptation, with inclusive updates that don't bother, but rather open up the possibilities of the story from another perspective, like turning Inspector Fix into a journalist who is part of the journey. The three protagonists work very well, David Tennant is an endearing Phileas Fogg and Passepartout is played for the first time by a French actor (in the best-known versions he was played by Cantinflas and Jackie Chan), adding the racial element as a novelty. But above all it manages to maintain the spirit of great adventure of the original novel.

I actually really really loved this adaptation and I do not entirely understand the backlash. It's not necessary a negative thing taking a classic story that's been told countless of times in countless adaptations and changing some of its bits in order to create a new, in my opinion equally (if not more) interesting one, instead of retelling the same old one for the millionth time. Abigail's character was a very spot on addition and fit the story perfectly. The historical aspect of it all which was not very present in the book made the story way more captivating for me. And of course, David Tennant is extraordinary in everything he does and this role was made for him, even if he was a slightly different Fogg than the always calm, always self-collected one we saw in the book. Speaking of Fogg, the Estella storyline was also a great addition for him, one that I personally much prefered compared to Aouda's in the book.

I enjoyed it. In contrast to some other series the changes from the book worked really well. It’s not often that these kind of political correctness works without damaging the spirit.

Hopefully they will make a second season (
from the ending it might be 20.000 leagues under the sea
).

There are only a few literary classics that are usually worth an updated version. This is one of them (in my opinion). As long as there is something new about the story, some new angle, it's generally worth a watch.
This one is worth a watch. Miss Fix is a fun welcome addition to the crew and David Tennant adds more layers to Phileas.

It also looks like they will be back for a 2nd season while possibly tackling 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

Pretty good,but not fantastic.

Lots of inconsistencies throughout..
> How did they manage to have their exploits printed in the paper so soon? We they using a fax machine?
> New clothes just about every day, but no suitcases..hmmm

They've signed up for a second season apparently - what'll they do- go around in 75 days?
Not convinced I'd watch another season of this

7/10

First episode was fine. Second one started to go to the boring side. Managed to watch 3rd fully in two sessions (fell asleep on first attempt). 4th - I think I made it in 4 or 5 chunks (fell asleep every 5-10 minutes). So decided to skip next 3 episodes and jumped straight to the last one - didn't seem I missed anything and managed to watch it fully without falling asleep
