An inexperienced detectiive is assigned to cold case work, and she fastens on that murder, Her current guv'nor - Bancroft - as a young policewoman, discovered the body. There are hints that the woman may not have been dead, The case was closed as a burglary gone wrong, but there is clearly something more to it.
