Not liking season 2 so far. I hate the convoluted use of flashbacks. It's a pet peeve of mine. It's just ruining season 2.

After The Missing, Baptiste got his own spinoff. While it was good, having to watch it on PBS was a negative and it didn’t have quite the same drama as The Missing did. Not a bad show but not quite as good as its predecessor either.
I thought the plot in a few areas was forced, but I did think the twist where Dragomir Czilinku actually went through a gender change which is why he (she) disappeared.
The 2nd season redeemed Baptiste for me, it was pretty good. Still not my favorite, but better than the first season.

The Missing had some charm, but the stand alone Baptisten seasons are poor in story and more. Its just boring, no fun plottwists.

A slow, convoluted web. International cast. The breakout star of THE BBC drama THE MISSING here gets his own spinoff series as a BBC One, PBS, Masterpiece Presentation. I was surprised by the resolution and that seldom happens. It looks like this might be a reoccurring series around the titular character. I give this series a 7 (good) out of 10. [Dramatic Crime Thriller]

Season 2 not worth your time. Convoluted & lazy political themes with overly forced agenda. OTT Actions scenes. Totally different programme to season 1 and The Missing.

I was skeptical at first with a main character who alternated sometimes n French and was an older type of man. However his character worked well in this series, sad there isn't a Season 3. I liked Season 1 and loved Season 2. Gripping, real and appropriately awful. I love shows that depict the darker side of humans in a realistic way, especially if it's a side that makes us uncomfortable to think about.

As the previous series Baptist is a great slow buner binge, great acting and story line. the episodes jump from past to future in a heart beat so stay focus. It is a well worth serie to binge in, very raw and dramatic.
You will enjoy it as long as you watch it till the end.

As a spin-off of "The missing" (Starz, 2014-2016) the S1 offered an interesting character in an irregular thriller. S2 is nonsense, trying to introduce Baptiste (Tchéky Karyo) into implausible action scenes, and despite the presence of Fiona Shaw and some reflection on the rise of the far-right ideologies in Europe, it remains a mediocre police story.

This series follows Julien Baptiste, the investigator who was the main character on the "The Missing" miniseries. This is a great character, impeccably portrayed by Karyo. The first season is great, although it relies too much on flashbacks, leaving you wondering if the story is that great, or if it is just the order in which it is told that make it more compelling.
Second season has the same flaw, and many more: a very convoluted story, plenty of coincidences, everything seems to be very far fetched. The agenda of far left BBC is clear: the villain of the series is Hungary and its refusal to accept migrants. Right wing politicians are connected to white supremacist terrorist, and you are either in the good pro-migrant camp, of basically a Nazi.
I look forward to BBC green-lighting a third season with Baptiste exploring some of the very real UK grooming gangs in a season 3.....but I am not holding my breath
