This is just a fabulous series

There has been a lot (too much?) wrestling on tv, and a couple of reasonable documentary / documentary series, but this is "the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be" (sorry, couldn't resist - but it is pretty good)

Each episode is 75 - 90 minutes long, and focuses (so far anyway) on the 90,s early 2000s of US wrestling, usually focused on a individual wrestler

I haven't watched wrestling for years, lived in outside the US, and not being that crazy about it, didn't see much of this at the time, but I did see enough to recognise most of the people highlighted here. The episodes each tell a story that copies the public and private life, in a way that seems genuine. Imperfections are not hidden, but it is told in such a way that even the a***holes come out looking more like flawed people. The stories are told in a mix of interviews, people telling their stories, old photos and highlights.

It still leaves me a little confused about why some of these fabulous athletes effectively sold their integrity to perform like this, but it is a reminder what these people went through. And how many ended up with drugs, alcohol, death or religion

Highly recommended, even if you aren't a wrestling fan
