Feels exactly like Stargate formula with similar issues (no surprise, with Jo Mallozzi and Paul Mullie). Not a bad thing as is being a huge Stargate fan. Quite the opposite actually, it feels kinda like "home", familiar so to say, although the cast is completely different and there's no Stargate anywhere whatsoever.
Now, this is not SG by a long shot BUT it shares some of the longest writers/exec producers of SG which is a good thing.

Personally, I couldn't be happier about Jo making a new SciFi show in space. It may or may not work out but so far, and we're just 3 eps in now, I genuinely enjoyed it. It doesn't reinvent the wheel and I see issues (clichés) but is by far not the worst effort of a new show I've seen the past seasons (DIG/American Odysee) and has room for a lot of exploration and I do trust Jo to be at least able to make this a greatly enjoyable show given time. Question is, if he is given the time he needs.
Considering the low acceptance of "SciFi" these days I won't hold my breath no matter the journey in S1 but we'll see.

Now that Season 1 is finished I can conclude one of the better SciFi shows of recent years. Personally much, much better than Killjoys, that suffers from awful writing that is all over the place and characters I do not care about in the slightest. There were some mediocre episodes, though, but more good ones. However, more important is that I enjoyed pretty much all of them very much. Happy to see SyFy renewing this for a second season already.

@ds1 Agreed, There is kind of a Stargate Energy behind it, However, Like you, Massive Stargate Fan, I Felt Deeply Wounded when they axed Stargate Universe, Hoping someone will awake the Crew one day. Moving on, I'm more than loving the " Dark Matter " Series, I can only Hope it's given a fair chance to Make It's Mark In Sci-Fi History and the SERIES Carry on till the End.

@alienmoon I loved SGU, it gave the SG franchise a new angle (SGA felt like a copy of SG1 in another galaxy) and it was awful seeing SyFy sabotage its airing by moving the timeslot and not advertising it enough. All while MGM was in financial trouble. I would have loved to see where they were going with Chloe and what they'd have done with Rush. :'( However, Dark Matter got a third season order last month despite mediocre ratings. I think three seasons is already a pretty good deal under these circumstances. Hopefully, Jo and the team are able to conclude the story the way they want. I am not sure how long that would be, but it's probably a bit more than three seasons. So they have to get better ratings in S3 again to ensure that. Fingers crossed.

I'm annoyed that they cancelled this so abruptly. I mean, we haven't had a decent sci-fi TV series since Dark Angel and Stargate.

I suppose there were a few reasons why, mostly for me is that they killed off one of the main characters in the start of the second series without further exploring his background.
As for the cliffhanger of the series finale itself; I really wanted to know what happens next. Does Six survive? Does Wexler joins the group? Will the different organizations including the Zairon empire unite against the new threat?

My ranting proves how I really enjoyed the show. Wish they brought it back.
