I normally don't judge a show so early on and without having watched all the episodes, but this show...disappointing, at best. I watched the first episode and "browesed" or "zapped" through the other 8, and I don't see the point so far. We are watching an extended version of the movie that was already shown in Japan and the pace is terribly slow, it starts off with a filler and the concept of a Super Sayan God and how it is born was ridiculous in the movie, how could it make sense here? Toriyama's involvement is hardly felt, at least the Toriyama that drew the original Dragonball... hopefully it will get better, for those that continue watching. Me, I'm dropping this.
Highly anticipated series, but to be honest, I prefer GT so far, and this is saying a loooot...

@m0ul I'm aware of it, as I wrote in the comment. Still, starting such an anticipated series with fillers is a daring move, as, from what I hear, it doesn't improve much later on.

@juliorosario Well, with the Future Trunks saga, it did get better. I'd say, one of the best season of the series yet so far.

I want to like the show but the inconsistency of power levels, the lack of character development, and the lack of exciting pacing make it really hard.
It just feels like the love for the legacy of Dragonball is missing and they are just trying to create a generic kids show. It seems like they listed the characters and their character traits and now they are just trying to combine them somehow to force funny interaction or artificial tension between them.

I just really enjoy this for the nostalgic Dragon Ball Z feelings. A show I watched loads of times when I was young.

I wish for an end to the whole saga where all fighters fight Zeno and lose until it comes to the Cell moment, where Gohan wins the fight and becomes the new and fair supreme ruler of the entire multiverse.

The biggest issue of the dragon ball franchise is its fandom. Dragon ball super is an excellent installment to the franchise and is way better than the predictive and slow paced dragon ball z which is the prelude to this show. Goku has always been a goofy and funny character. He often forgets things and it's greatly portrayed in z. This isn't a documentary of something that actually happened. It's a story written by Akira Toriyama. So, he gets to decide how each character should progress and in which direction the story should go on. Dragon ball fans love the trend of bashing newer additions to a franchise with ridiculous comments like their favourite character wasn't focused on. Be specific and constructive with your criticisms instead of pointless arguments.

I don't understand why people are complaining about this. This is a perfect sequel to dragon ball z and I'd say they have improved a lot in terms of storyline and character arcs, even the pacing of the show is much better. Although there are some annoying things in the last arc but it's all forgiven given how much dragon ball has matured with time. Sure, it's no Naruto but it has never been, this anime has always been in its own league. I loved dragon ball super.

I don't believe that after more than a decade, that's what they came up with. The way they convey power for the characters is so lame. Not to mention that there is no pattern for power scale. Sometimes a super saiyan is stronger the a whole army, other times, weaker than a frog.
Such lame show. People say that the last saga is where it gets good, but sincerely, I have no idea how they hold up to watch 100 episodes of this shit.

The Dragon Ball Super anime is not perfect, but what it does excel in is showing more depth and personality in the supporting cast that's never been seen before in the franchise. Highly recommended.

I've watched through the first arc thus far and tend to enjoy the show so far. I tried figuring if I should watch the movies or the series first and found out the entire first to arcs are dragged out versions of the movies Battle of Gods and Resurrection F. Although, when Beerus first shows up looking for the Super Saiyan God and Goku goes "100%", he makes it to SS3 and says it is his highest level. What happened to the SS4 we saw in DBGT? With that aside, the action is incredible, the powers are immense, and it still has the classic feel with a modern twist.

@chunkeydelight Dragon Ball GT has been wiped from the Dragon Ball canon. So it never happened. But say, hypothetically, that GT is still part of the canon, GT takes place far more into the future than Super and SS4 hasn't happened yet.

@fightnhippo the only thing that disappoints me is that even if GT were to take place (hypothetically) the last episode, Goku is told that there's a form past the SS4 stage... so in my eyes they should've started off with him forming SS4 before moving to god... regardless... I'm still enjoying this series...

@chunkeydelight Not that there aren't other plot holes, the DBGT is happening about 15-20 years after Buu was defeated. This is happening after 4 years. If you see Pan is now being born while in DBGT she is a teenager.

If I were to rate each arc I'd give the first two arcs a 5, the 3rd arc a 6, the 4th arc an 8 and the last arc a 10. I am biased of course, dragon ball is my all-time favourite series.

The throwback in the 4th arc was nice to watch and had a lot of touching moments. I really felt moved by Trunks. The Tournament of Power arc was insane, some of the early boring fights aside.
