[Netflix] It offers an overview of how institutionalized corruption has been consolidated throughout history in FIFA, a criminal organization compared to the mafia by the FBI, which in 2015 dismantled part of its financial network. But the conclusion is pessimistic when one of the interviewees thinks that it is impossible to end corruption. Especially with interviews as indulgent as the one here with former FIFA president Sepp Blatter.

Just a small little series about corrupt people.
Explaining themselves how they are corrupt.
Explaining how they created a corrupt organization.
Explaining that they will never change their organization.
Explaining how many of them were arrested for corruption.

Why does any country keep working with FIFA?

Eh it's our fault that thousands of workers died in Qatar?
It is not like we decided that Qatar hosts the World Cup.
It is not like we created a system that only works by bribing voting members.
It is not like we knew they didn't have the infrastructure or manpower to host this World Cup.
It is not like we got the reports that said workers were dying and decided to do nothing.
It is not like we can just decide that another country hosts the Word Cup, because we created a murder machine.

@roflmonkey well the answer is given in the series: Hosting a World Cup is a promise of wealth and maybe even geopolitical influence. It is the perfect opportunity for massive PR and marketing towards a global community.
Although history shows that many poorer countries invest heavily in this and in infrastructure only to never reap benefits high enough to balance this out.

Good look at the huge corruption within FIFA... and it's never gonna change.

McDonand's & adidas and co. were quick to distance themselves from Russia regarding Ukraine but this... nah nothing to see or worry about everything is squeaky clean.

This was a disappointment in the end. If you've followed the news about the UEFA and FIFA in the last 10 years there's not much new to learn here for you. It's a good overview of wat happened but nothing more.

Generally interesting to get information this detailed. The series was a bit long winded in my opinion however. I could have done without so much about the history of this non-profit (there is no word describing how laughable this is) organisation and with more focus on the corruption and crime.
I am also a bit turned off that this stayed true to documentary neutrality. I don't think there should be a neutral stand when something so influential and powerful is so obviously rotten to the core.
This series could have been an opportunity to dissuade people from watching the World Cup in Qatar. Instead, if you want you can still close your eyes and ears before all because firstly all the bad guys are seemingly gone and so FIFA must be magically good without any restructuring necessary and because secondly there is no judgement or anything towards the obvious lies of people like the Qatari Prince or Blatter (yeah right he definitely must have a white west because that is definitively fitting for someone so powerhungry and unscrupulous ...)

@lenodos I just finished this series. I didn't watch any matches, or otherwise participate in the audience of this world cup, even though my beloved Netherlands were playing and doing pretty well as people told me.

If I had seen a documentary that was not neutral beforehand, I would be more inclined to watch the world cup, and many people I know would do the same. Moral messages are better received when they are neutral and balanced, and you don't feel that the showrunners are trying to signal their own superiority with an easy message.

@reficulgr that might be. However I think it does not necessarily count for the majority if you think about the documentary "Making a murderer" which is already highly suggestive in its title and still evoked a massive response.
Also I find it not very mature, reflected and even dangerous to merely support something out of protest but that was not your point.
