Just finished watching it and, like some, I´m a bit on the fence. It´s a good show that has a lot going for it, most of all the cast. The acting is outstanding at times and gives you some really beautiful moments between the characters. John Nobles performance is among the best I´ve ever seen on TV. And I became very fond of Anna Torv. And despite the fact that a lot of the scientific background is borderline at best the show never feels silly.
But like some others mentioned I too think the plot went south during the later parts. The first two season got me hooked pretty fast, the third I think was at times to much to fast. But with the forth came the nosedive. It deteriorated to a point where I simply didn´t cared anymore for the plot and just went on watching to see how it ends. Not to mention that the conclusion has huge logical problems.
I´m not regretting watching it but I don't want to watch it again.

I totally agree with your first part! John Noble became my favorite actor after I watched this show.
I could really identify with the main characters and their feelings.

Personally I really liked the later seasons. Especially 4 & 5 because it becomes more of a single story instead of the (more or less) stand-alone episodes it had in the first 2 seasons. The show had a very worthy and thrilling ending.
I don't think it was a huge let down but it did feel awkward. Kind of like they had to wrap it up too fast or weren't sure what to do. It left me with a strange feeling of sadness though I'm not sure how much of that was due to it being the end of one of my all time favorite shows, and how much was due to the actual plot.

This is an absolutely splendid series, but it is not for the faint of heart. You will notice that after 10-15 episodes in, there are so many unanswered questions. To add fuel to the fire, they only add more questions to the bank. It got to the point that before the even answered ANY of them, I was already so lost that I had completely forgot how they all connected. Don't misinterpret this as I did not enjoy the series, because I did, it was just a lot of moving pieces that added up to a huge puzzle that got answered in the last episode. Everything before that was just unanswered questions that left a lot of cliffhangers. Otherwise, good show.

I miss Fringe with a passion. Fantastic characters each of which performed and excelled at their art especially when looking at alternate universes. Walter (John Noble) is my most favorite character in a show hands down. Olivia, portrayed by Anna Torv, I have a big crush on, shows her versatility as an actor playing multiple parts and characters extremely well. Fringe was so underrated and should have had more seasons. I still have November's Diary on my coffee table. I also miss the addition to the lab - Gene.

One of the best tv series I have ever watched, first 2 seasons we're out standing and after that I just became addicted to the show and completed it, when ever someone asks me for a recommendation on sci fi series Fringe is the very first one to appear in mind.

3 Thoughts After Re-Watching ‘Fringe’:

1. Walter Bishop is one of THE best, most underrated television characters of all time. John Noble did an absolutely incredible job and was, ultimately, the heart of the show.

2. ‘Fringe’ — one of my favorite TV series, ever — wasn’t always perfect. There were some small storylines that never followed through, which could always be explained away by time resets, and super over-the-top ideas... BUT it always stayed true to what it was. Fringe cases explained away by science, not supernatural, and usually serving as a metaphor for what the characters were going through. An awesome ensemble cast who all stuck around right ‘til the very end. The special effects were consistently top-notch. And so many full circle moments in that last season. It was an extraordinary ride!

3. That final ending. It sure does stay with you. Heartbreaking, yet effective. You don’t want it to end the way it does, but it also feels like it couldn’t have ended any other way.

the sci-fi aspect of this show is very entertaining but i think its strength lies in how much heart it has and how absolutely heartbreaking and lovely the characters and relationships are. i really wish it wasn't so underrated. i guess the final season and the series finale in general didn't satisfy everyone but since for me this was a story about family and love i thought it was perfect.

I watched this show when it aired and rated it a '9' when I joined Trakt a few years back. However, I decided to rewatch a few days ago which has turned into a complete binge.....honestly enjoying it so much more the second time around. I am pretty confident that once I've gone through this iteration I will be bumping my score up to 10.

Some of the 'episodes-of-the-week' are a bit formulaic and derivative of what has gone before. However, even in some of the weaker episodes (which are few and far between in my opinion) what really props it up is the excellent cast of characters and watching their relationships develop with each other. Great balance of sci-fi, feels, and funnies with plenty of twists and turns.....totally engaging. Oh and Walter Bishop is, perhaps, one of the greatest TV characters ever created.

This show has a lot of “filler” formulaic episodes; and a lot of great episodes too. Consider skipping some of binging.
