This show has been fantastic so far and by far the best Rom-Com/drama of the fall. The LN was written by the author of Toradora and you can definitely see some of the similarities. At last, we get a Rom-Com with college students instead of high schoolers who are more "mature" (at least when not with the legendary Tea Club) and we finally get different scenarios than all those standard high school events. The characters are well developed so far and you can clearly see a lot of development that is coming for all of them. However, what is going to happen seems pretty difficult to predict IMO which is refreshing in the Rom-Com genre for me. I also like a lot of the plot mechanisms and situations they used even though the show does get heavy on the flashbacks at times (but kind of necessary as you'll see). This seems like the must watch show of the fall (Monogatari Second Series started in the summer!) and I look forward to it every week. Watch it.

Oh and one more thing. Linda x Banri all the way.

I hated the first episode a lot and I don't think I'll pick it up again. The must watch show is no doubt Kyousougiga imho which is the only show that has been consistently great. As for romance, White Album 2 feels more mature where even one of the girls can drive (like we ever see that in anime lol). The MC is a bit too naive and one of the girls a bit gullible but it works. If you need melodrama there is always Nagi no Asukara where the couplings are still uncertain and a lot of crying is involved.

This is definitely one where you have to give it a couple episodes to develop. Things really pick up quickly and get interesting (slightly supernatural) so I'd recommend giving it another shot (at least getting 3-4 episodes in). The one thing that I really like about this series is that they do a great job of balancing the romance/drama and comedy. I'm definitely gonna check out the other shows in due time.

@sp1ti I'd give it another go. I wasn't massively impressed by the first episode either but I stuck with it and I've really enjoyed it so far. To be honest, the series is a massive cliché storm but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

@deanzel Definitely agree with you about Linda x Banri. Honestly Linda is just so much more likeable than Koko. It's annoying that, unless they're going to really break with convention, the outcome is kinda already decided, being as Koko is on all the main covers, OPs, EDs etc. Koko can be cute but she's waaaaay too clingy and annoying at times. And Linda is just... lovely.

@ManiacB don't tempt me ;(. Cliché storm doesn't increase my interest to be honest (despite not really having seen much romance stuff). How is that second episode? It just screamed melo-drama and gold-head seemed really annoying. Given that almost every episode-cap used to be of her I take it she is still very much the focus? All I've seen otherwise are Banri hype threads on /a/ and some mixed takes on it.

@sp1ti I would still give this show a shot as I've greatly enjoyed it (but I will admit that I love rom-coms). I would not judge this show until you get to at least episode 3+. There is definitely a good amount of drama brewing (and to come) but I think the show takes a bit of different approach in terms of the mechanism causing it (don't want to spoil it). It's not perfect or groundbreaking but it's a lot of fun for sure. And I don't know who it posting all the episode-caps but they obviously are a bit obsessed with Kouko. The earlier episodes definitely focus on her and her development (from crazy-stalker bitch to slightly chiller crazy-stalker chick) but the other characters definitely get their chances to shine (Linda in particular later along with an awesome cameo from a classic anime character). And the show then begins to really focus on the internal conflict and struggles of Banri.

@ManiacB I will never get off the Linda ship/Titanic no matter what the odds.

@deanzel Think I'm right on board with ya there buddy :D

@sp1ti What I meant really was that in spite of it being full of clichés you've seen before (for the most part), it's still fairly enjoyable. I'm not going to lie, gold-head/Koko is probably the least likeable character for me, but the focus isn't entirely around her and she's not too bad usually. Certainly the later episodes in the first half have been more about Banri than her really.

And yeah, I replaced most of those episode caps because of a) TV logos (pet peeve of mine, just use clone tool or find a non-logo rip grr) and b) every damn picture being of Koko, rather than being, I don't know, representative of the episode? /sigh

A good review of the first half of Golden Time. To summarize: watch it immediately.

http://kotaku.com/golden-time-s-first-half-has-me-by-the-heart-strings-1500855286

After finally finishing the show, it may not have been as great as I initially thought. I really liked the first half of the show but the second half got a bit too melodramatic and similar things kept happening again and again. Although it's from the same creator of Toradora (one of my favorite romances), it doesn't hold a candle to it. However, it is still a solid watch in its own right. If you're looking for a solid romantic comedy involving college-aged students and some more mature romantic themes, still give it a shot.
