I read this book ages ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, this TV adaptation by Amazon has been just as enjoyable. I was really reassured when I saw Neil Gaiman was involved in writing this script. It more or less holds very well to the original book. The pacing feels good too, not too rushed, but it doesn't drag on either.

The casting is SPOT ON! I will admit I'm a fan of David Tennant anyway, but his portrayal of Crowley is just fantastic. All of them really fit their roles to a T.
I also appreciate the use of a narrator, I think that was a great stylistic choice. It not only helps it hold to the book more closely but is also a good way to add a little exposition where some might be needed without it feeling forced or awkward/clunky.

And of course there is plenty of the classic Terry Pratchett wit and humor to be found through out. It's quirky, but not so goodfy that it fails to take itself seriously when the situation calls for it. It's one of those shows I wish there could be more of, but all good things must come to an end, and of course being based on an existing book assures that won't happen either. ^^;

Okay, I saw this advertised for a while and I really didn't think I'd be that into it - just didn't seem like my thing! But I love Tennant and I had some free time so I started it and omg I had to binge watch the entire thing immediately! This is now one of my absolute favourites! I completely adore Aziraphale for a start.. and his friendship with Crowley, ah, it's so great to watch. The whole grumpy, snarky, dark but not-so-evil character contrasted against the angelic, kind-hearted, pure character is the BEST trope and I will fight anyone that says otherwise. I really, really hope they decide to bring this show back despite it being a mini-series and there being no more source material.. as of yet!

Honestly my only downside is that
Aziraphale and Crowley didn't get together at the end! All i wanted was a hand-hold or something!!! I really felt it was building up to it the whole season.. so I hope we get another where they can explore it.
I'm really just grateful to this show because it's been a hot minute since i've been this invested in a show, fictional character or a pairing. Life got in the way. It feels great to be getting so much joy out of a show again!! And I'm now wondering why I've never taken more notice of Michael Sheen - his acting is insane!

(PLS I NEED A S2)

I loved the book, so much so that in college I was the dork that knew what classical composers the demon attributed to which rock songs. I thought it was one of the most hilarious books I ever read.

And it has been a while since I picked it up again, but I don't remember the book being pretentious.

Yet the show feels pretentious, the humor isn't really fun, it isn't a hysterical satire that works on multiple levels...it's kind of just snooty.

The book felt like it was made for everyone, but the show feels a bit elitist

And honestly that's a shame, I was really excited about it

**SEASON ONE REVIEW:**
!only watched two episodes!

Not for me. I'm evidently in the minority, but I found this a disappointing watch; even after only two episodes.

First off, it's nothing to do with the (amusing) religion outcry about 'Good Omens'. If anything, I applaud them for having fun with it. However, I found everything about it from a television show perspective a chore to sit through. I like Michael Sheen and David Tennant as actors, especially the former, but neither of them fit their roles here in my opinion. Sheen feels like he's holding back, while Tennant's performance comes across as a Bill Nighy impersonation at times - a partly tongue-in-cheek comment, but kinda not. I didn't sense any chemistry between the two, either.

The special effects are average, some of the enhanced (?) backgrounds look weak. The humour is alright, if forced. I also found the show remains on scenes for too long. For example, there's one involving three babies which they build as some sort of quick, smart, sleight of hand thing but choose to play it out in such a drawn out and obvious manner - it needed to be much more snappier, which sums up my overall feelings for this show.

As noted at the top, I am evidently in a small crowd in terms of my thoughts for this. Each to their own, I respect everyone's opinions, but I honestly didn't connect to it unfortunately. Who knows, perhaps I'll give it another chance later in life but I doubt it.

The Omens are not good for the second season of this series.

Whilst the first season was funny, satirical, wryly insightful and witty, season two falls from grace. Predictably, "the message" is shoved in your face in episode one and doesn't go away. Alternative lifestyles/sexuality, feminism, diversity, blah blah blah.

When it gets round to the actual story its a timid and muted affair, that's at times hysterical in a bad way and in my view, wholly unfunny. Not even the talents of David Tennant and co can lift this out of the pit of mediocrity and lecturing pettiness, its hurled itself into.

I managed two episodes before calling it a day.

In summary, its beyond me how materiel with so much promise can be made so uninspiring and dull but there you have it. In short, I found it lecturing, tedious, timid and thoroughly unfunny.
