SPOILERS BELOW. I CAN'T GET THE TRAKT APP TO HIDE THE TEXT.<br /> <br /> I am giving it a 7 because I honestly really enjoy it so far. But episode 6 left a bad taste in my mouth because it was going so so fast. That last song really took me out of my immersion<br /> <br /> If I was in charge of writing this show, I would've made the first season focus on running the hotel, finding guests to redeem, world-building and mainly letting the plot breathe. Set up mysteries here and there, introuduce characters that will be important in the future, and see the main cast grow closer to each other while developing their strengths/flaws. <br /> <br /> Set up Charlie's problems with her dad as the season goes on (rather than straight up telling us), show Angel Dust's gradual improvement, hint a little at Vaggie being an angel, give the overlords some time to shine every once in a while, show Alastor getting closer to Charlie, actually make Charlie and Vaggie an interesting couple, etc. You can keep Ep. 4 Masquerade in season 1, just place it a little later so that the tonal whiplash isn't as strong. And episode 2 Radio Killed the Video Star can stay as well, just make Sir Pentious's decision to be better more logical instead of just saying sorry. Then Episode 3 (I forgot the name) can keep the trust exercise part and expand upon it, but tackle Vaggie's internal conflict differently.<br /> <br /> At the end of season 1, THREE months have gone by since the pilot, Charlie gets the cue to go talk to Adam and pretty much the same things go down. She is told that the time between exterminations was cut in half, meaning that she only has other three months to achieve her goal, rather than the nine she assumed were left. This would be a great twist, up the stakes and put all of Charlie's progress with the hotel in jeopardy. It'd leave viewers waiting anxiously for season 2 even more because now they are attached to these characters so much more. There's also the question of who killed the angel.<br /> <br /> In season 2 we would get the reveal that Vaggie is an angel (but Charlie doesn't find out until the heaven court hearing thing) and also the overlords meeting that tells us that Carmilla killed one. Leaving this moment for season 2 would've made the song "Whatever It Takes" so much more emotional since we'd understand both characters on a deeper level. Lucifer would make his first appearance halfway through season 2. At this point Alastor would be actually shown to have grown closer to Charlie, making the rivalry between the two "dads" not seem out of nowhere and the resolution of father and daughter would be felr more from Charlie's point of view. Then the next two episodes after that would take place in Heaven, since clearly doing everything in 20 minutes was blasphemous.<br /> <br /> Basically, Hazbin Hotel would've benefitted from working towards a middle point, but they are sprinting towards the finish line. It's a shame.
