Even if the show is now over 25 years old, it is a master piece, Ian Richardson pills a hell of a performance. So much of the US show can be found in it, and at the same time the quality of both are equals in so many ways. Loved it. The only down side is how short the season are.

Absolute genius writing and performing in this, and in all the chaos in British politics of the last decade, you could easily imagine someone like Urquhart behind the scenes pulling strings for their own gain. Be sure to catch the follow-up series "To Play the King" and "The Final Cut" as well.

This show is a masterpiece. I saw it first when I was too young to understand everything (around 8 yo, and I watched it in English without subtitles when I wasn't yet fluent in English) and rewatched it multiple times since then, but even the first time, it drew me in. Ian Richardson performance was perfect.

I watched this earlier than I planned in part in getting impatient for the American season 3 to start, and in part because I heard rumours of no more BBC programming on Netflix. Watching both series is very illustrative.
