Michaela Coel sets the table for a necessary conversation about the true nature of drugs, sex, rape, identity, friendship and the complex moral and psychological issues surrounding victims of sexual abuse. Raw, brilliantly written and fulled with daring performances by the complete cast, I MAY DESTROY YOU invites audiences to talk about it and take action.

Relevant, funny, moving, incredibly well acted, written and directed, so dense, human, full of thought and deep but also visually inventive and fascinating. Wow.

I liked it, but
what was the deal with biagio???!! I still don't understand. He called her over and over again, they bonded, sure he reacted bad to her rape, but overall he was sweet and cute, even in that last scene when said he could never hate her. So what happened? WHY? It upsets me so much that I will never get to know why he did that.
I did try to like this show, and gave it a good try but .... it really IS all over the place. The camera work is annoying, the lead can't speak clearly and it's overly long... just had to give up on it, although I felt it had an important message to convey.

@emm12321 so you judged it on only the first episde and gave the overall series a 5 even though you only watched 1/12 of it?

@drapers Can't remember how many episodes I watched - may have been one, I think it was more - I don't leave every episode on my history cause it's annoying. Anyway, so what if I only watched one? Leave your own comment if have an alternate view!

[HBO] A series that has no problem showing uncomfortable realities and even characters, like the protagonist, who is sometimes irresponsible. But that is one of the great virtues of a different look towards an important reflection on sexual relations and consent. If in other visions things are white or black, this series has the virtue of showing gray nuances. The resolution, however, is quite ridiculous.

Eats more than it can chew and certainly there are details that could have had a better conclusion/examination given how much works does to attack every rape apologist argument that it presented, but to see something from our contemporary day and age have the certain amount of courage to not only to go as far as it did in asking those question while simultaneously having so many facets of rape culture explore, but reconstructing an entire narrative and it some aspects reclaiming the identity, female sexuality and experience of its protagonist it was makes it much better that I was expecting. Not perfect, but, good lord, we really need something like this.

Michaela Coel is a genius. The writing, the directing, honestly the whole thing had me riveted and emotional and I hope she wins some awards. Phenomenal work.

Equally rich side characters get a bit short-shrifted, but Coels' writing of Arabella's journey is as complex, multi-faceted, and lively as this medium can be, culminating in a galvanizing, slippery finale of pronged imperfections that is a perfect endpoint for this series.
