I thought this was brilliant - very nordic, dark, slow paced, thoughtful, complex - and I loved the sub-titles for the Swedish dialogue. Very interesting story line which for me had a some surprises from my initial thoughts. I hope that they don't devalue this with a second season though!

This series reminded me of another Icelandic show, Fortitude (2015) . Katla was filmed during the Covid epidemic near the sub-glacial volcano the show is named after. I found it interesting, and creepy without being overly graphic. I enjoyed it.

[Netflix] A foray into the Nordic tradition of the "doppelgänger" that manages to be forceful by creating an eerie atmosphere. At times it reminds of "The revenants" (Canal+, 2012-2015) in the way the "returnees" interact in real life, and the complex decisions they cause in real people. Somehow the imperfect world is threatened by an idealized life, "doppelgänger" are dangerous to the extent that society is flawed.

I liked some of the characters and seeing their emotional battles, and the mystery sci-fi elements were brilliant. Overall, I enjoyed the suspense, but the story takes some characters down a path that made this experience bitter, meaningless, and not worth remembering. I recommend jumping ship the last 15 minutes and then write your own ending. I can't stand when writers have no respect for the bond that viewers feel toward the main characters.

An interesting take in a wonderful and scenic setup. But it might feel slow almost throughout the entire show.

This is an interesting show. The how of the "doppelgängers" is not what's relevant here but the why. Why did these "doppelgänger" appear, what is their purpose. And once that purpose has been fulfilled the "doppelgänger" disappear as suddenly as they appeared (in most cases).

The show is a little slow, that's because it comes from Europe where stories unfold differently than in the U.S.

I really wanted to like this one, the set up was so interesting. But it ended up being so disappointing. The way the characters acted it was like they were just puppets being pushed along by the story rather than the story being shaped by the characters themselves. And the ending was the most dissatisfying thing. I usually like dark stuff like that but it just ended up being bland.

This series is... Totally not what you would expect. The explanation of what is happening finally comes in the last episode of season 1, but up to that point the series keeps you guessing.
It's not really sci-fi, it's starts to be more of a drama by episode 6 or so.
It's still an interesting series and gives a feel of Iceland and their people and the harsh surroundings they deal with.
I strongly advise to watch the original version with sibtitles and not some dubbed audio version.
It's not the best series ever, but I still found it to be entertaining and kept me engaged.
I wonder if they plan to do a second season, I'm not sure if i'll be watching though.

So boring. Is the typical show that uses the excuse of paranormal things to dig into the characters, but without giving enough respect to the fantasy/scifi part of it.
That could be good but this show is just so slow and dull, with the characters being more fake than their doubles.
Not worth it.

The story reminds me of Stanislav Lem's Solaris. I love the 50 Shades of Black of the ash landscape. you feel dirty just watching it.
