Writing this comment a few years after the show ended, and my 5 star rating stands.

I really enjoyed the show at the beginning and enjoyed it enough to watch it (not hate watch) it through it's first cancelation. The show was cast very well, everyone played their role really well, but the constant hard line political views and commentary were just annoying. I am not political, this is not an "I find it offensive" response, I truly just found it annoying to have any political ideal thrown at me in ~75% of the scenes the star is in.

That said, I would have given it a 6 if they had not come back for a few more seasons. To start, they replaced Molly Ephraim with Molly McCook, and while I have no issue with McCook at all, both my wife and I thought she was great, something was off (and we accepted her as Mandy, roles get recast for a myriad of reasons) and we still cannot put our fingers on it, but I think McCook was dumbed down too much in the role, neither my Wife or I could imagine her as that stereotypical "dumb blonde" character.

The show dragged on, it felt like people were contractually obligated to be there, more than they wanted to be there. Just one guy's opinion, take it as you will.

Also, I missed Kaitlyn Dever, Eve was such an awesome character, and I understand the timing was bad for her (I thought I read), but her absence was noted.

Here's my view as a non-US citizen watching this from outside of the country. This show was awesome until the Leftist Hollywood Nazis decided to cancel it from ABC in 2017 (after Season 6), triggered by a Republican being elected to the White House in November 2016.

The show was then picked up by Fox. Unfortunately, the damage seemed to have been done, since some of the main actors didn't show up in the re-boot (probably because of the fear of being cancelled by the Leftist social media Nazis). Molly Ephraim never came back as the second daughter and was recast with a different actress who never managed to fill the void. Kaitlyn Dever (youngest daughter) became just a guest in the show, instead of being a main character. A few new characters were introduced to fill the empty story arcs left void by them leaving. That Chinese actress is just plain annoying and never improved over the later seasons. That character was clearly a token character introduced hoping to balance the political undertones at the time, and didn't really add anything to the overall story.

Needless to say, seasons 7, 8 and 9 feels like a completely different show. Having said that, kudos to Tim Allen, Nancy Travis and Héctor Elizondo for having the courage to fight for this show and keeping it running for 3 more seasons.

Good luck America, may you find your way back to your founding principles as a constitutional republic. :flag_us:

Hey! Hey! I saw you watching this! You're not supposed to like it! You're not supposed to laugh at it! It's got the wrong politics and...

... yeah ok, the bit is over.

The fact is it really doesn't have any politics in it, it's just about a decent father and his family, and it's about a macho man surrounded by women trying to relate to them and done respectfully.

Which is actually probably why you're not suppose to like this.

But who care's it's funny and its politics free, so much so that the only politics in it are projected. So, Kudos, it's worth a watch
