I wasn't overly impressed with the start of the season but there were some aspects that were interesting and I like to give shows a chance as some shows that I have loved started poorly or took me a little while to get into. It took a few episodes of teasing and then the story started to show some promise as I started to enjoy it more... but then it got bogged down with the teen soap opera as the twins negotiated their angsty teenage high school relationships.

The high school setting was mainly just there to service various morality messages that only had passing relevance to the core story. Of course these elements will appeal to a certain section of the audience who won't care that none of it is very well told. Issues such as gay acceptance, metoo and some undefined claim of "White privilege" that is levelled against a group of kids whose apparent leader is not even white. If this part of the series wasn't all so self conscious, over drawn and preachy it might have been fine. Surely it is a more positive and effective tool for social change just to present gay characters in a natural way, how does it serve the overall story to belabor it so much. The sexually abusive male was only relevant in his primary interaction with the core cast, the scene where he is outed is completely irrelevant.

All of this political rubbish drew attention to other aspects like the prominent strong female characters accounting for the mojority of the more powerful roles and the calculated racial casting. These aspects were for the most part done much better and the actors involved were quite believable in their roles.

Finally to the core of the story where their was plenty of promise except there wasn't enough time left to properly flesh it out with more engaging details. The underlying social messages in the main story actually mirror the high school drama in some ways which makes the high school stuff even more redundant. The various "monsters" aren't really explained very well. As is the fashion in many modern shows, the level of the effects available and trust in the audiences willingness to swallow anything that looks cool dictates how powerful a characters power might be from one scene to the next... in one scene they can kill a team of enemy combatants then in the next they are suddenly too slow.

The only hope for the show is that they feel they have set up the young characters storylines well enough and can now concentrate more on the main story... but I doubt it.

Gave it a shot and watched somewhere into episode 3. That's where I decided this is not worth it.
The setup of the show is showing you whatever you do not want to see after reading the premise.

It's bland, boring and all over the place with way too much social commentary and a deliberate attempt at being inclusive in terms of the cast. But falls flat on the writing in the process, making any story to unfold impossible. Nothing ever happens that is of interest. This is one of the shows where the homosexuality of a character isn't something organically established but more so the center piece of that person's character and personality. Having a gay character just to have a gay character in this to appear progressive and modern. Sadly, it's just a run of the mill token-gay character.

There are a few glimpses of the premise here and there sprinkled in but none of that makes any sense. The show is trying to setup a mystery after mystery to keep you watching but it never gives answers or enough information for you to hold onto until the big answers are coming. The acting is atrocius. The kids in this have no experience in acting as it seems, Taylor is terrible at it and MacKenzie is only in for the paycheck and has no charisma on screen. Not to forget there's no chemistry between Taylor and MacKenzie at all. The attempts at humour are cringeworthy.

Nothing in this show fits.

**MY THOUGHTS ON OCTOBER FACTION:**

_**-WARNING: Spoilers Below-**_

Overall this is a good show ruined by bad plot. The characters are good and the actors play them great but the story and direction the show takes is boring. It was good to watch as a background show whilst I played games but after the first 2 episodes I just gave up on it and couldn't be bothered to give it my full attention. Now does this mean the show was bad or miserable? No, it was definitely worth the watch especially seeing as it's only a season long. It's definitely worth the quick watch especially if you're using it as a filler show.

The monsters in the show are all designed decently, not too special but none were bad. I honestly think the main downfall to this was simply the writing. If you took the actors and the monsters and everything and kept it all the same but only changed the writing and directing this show could have easily had more than 2 seasons. It's a shame that they ruined a show with such potential.

If I were to give you any advise before watching this show it would be "don't expect too much" for the main reason that it doesn't deliver any of your expectations. It's good as a filler show before you watch something big but it isn't worth anything else. I can COMPLETELY understand why it was cancelled. Which is a shame because I actually had quite high hopes for it.

**Overall rating: 5/10**
