It's the new Downton Abbey but so so SOOOOO much better.

I love the intensity of the characters

At first, I liked the series for nice sceneries, interesting characters and promising troubles they try to confront.

But then "baddies" became more and more demonized and smart protagonist just starts doing stupid things one after other and reacting on all enemy lunges with "well what could we do". Poldark is presented to us as too nice and equitable guy to do bad to antagonist while he does quite immoral things to beloved. And it doesn't make him a complex character but the illogical and hypocrite one. The antagonists aren't any deep at all — they just do bad things and have no background. Most of this things feel like a lazy scripting.

The idea of series is quite primitive: good guys dramatically struggle until the bad guys are randomly defeated in the end without their participation.

Poldark is the kind of drama that just goes on a little too long and would have been better as a three seasons type of things. Interestingly, the intrigue seem to both stretch, almost becoming boring, although the show spans an incredible amount of time. That is one of Poldark's witness. Despite having such a strong timeline to explore, it seems like it falls back on the same issues, over and over again. At first, it's good drama but then, it just gets tedious. Characters that never seem to evolve and gain perspective although so much time passes. It's a bit of a shame really. Since most characters are actually very charming and you just want to root for them but they do make it hard at times and you're left wondering why you bother...

Watch it for the pretty scenery, the passionate drama. You'll probably stick it to the end by season 3 because you'll have gone that far. Just prepare to lower your expectations as episodes go by.
It's still great acting, lovely characters (mostly), and amazing landscapes. The scenarii are the let down.

Loved every moment from season 1 to 4. Keep a good impression, the pleasure of the story and characters, actors:skip season 5.

This is a beautiful, beautiful show with fantastic, intense, well developed characters and a very gripping story. It will fill you with joy, make you angry, break your heart and keep you on the edge of your sit so many times you'll lose count.
The last season wasn't as good as the rest of the series (in my opinion) and it's a shame. Maybe if it had covered the story that was so rushed in the last two episodes it would have been better, but still, looking back I just don't care.

Poldark is and will be one on my absolute favourite shows. I enjoyed it deeply and will watch in again in the future for sure, just to be back with the characters I came to love so much.

This show is worth watching if you have an interest in the period. The acting is top notch.

However, the writing leaves a bit to be desired at points, for me. There are a handful of times when a character reacts to something as if they are just learning of it, when it was explicitly shown in a previous episode that they already knew of this. It's kind of like the writers felt "This would be a nice point to have a dramatic reaction from the character, so lets just pretend as if s/he is learning of this for the first time." It really deflates my interest as a viewer.

Excellent series until the last season. The last season was terrible. I didn't even recognize the characters. But otherwise one of my favorite shows ever.
