Now there's a blast from the past. And you know what ? It still works most of the time. Had some really good laughs and you really can't afford to blink as there are so much things going on in every scene. Great word play, too. But there is also a lot of repeating of the same jokes in every episode. At two and a half hours you can watch this on a leisurely afternoon.

Seen this so many times and it just never gets old. Even after having watched the series many times, I always find something new to laugh at, since there is just so much going on. And even if I wouldn’t find new jokes I had previously missed, the comedy that’s there is just so clever/stupid it doesn’t stop being funny. A machine gun of dad jokes and physical comedy, hilarious from the first minute to the very last.

Highly recommended for everyone, and especially so if you like Leslie Nielsen and The Naked Gun / Airplane!

Before there was a Naked Gun, there was Police Squad! — a short-lived ABC comedy from Jim Abrahams and the Zucker brothers. The show follows Sergeant Frank Dreblin, Detective Lieutenant (played by Leslie Nielsen), as he investigates cases with a special unit of the LAPD. The comedy is hysterical; using a combination of sight gags, word play, and slapstick. Ahead of its time, the series also includes bits of meta humor; such as an unreliable narrator reading different episode titles than what appears on screen, fake freeze-frame gages at the end of the episodes, and killing the episode’s special guest star in the title sequence. However, the jokes are rather hit-and-miss and the writing is weak; as the stories are just there to setup the jokes. Yet despite its problems, Police Squad delivers a lot of laughs.

I've never seen something so stupid and so clever at the same time. This is a lot of fun.

Love this show! Slapstick humor and the inspiration for the Naked Gun movie series. Leslie Nielsen and Alan North are hilarious!

Just started this series for the first time. I had never seen this before, it is extremely funny , much more than the Naked Gun movies.

It's funny because they play it with a straight face and very seriously. They think like they are in a serious situation. The Naked Gun movies play it like a comedy, they are self aware and that hurts the comedy. Especially with Leslie Nielsen doing all the faces in the later movies.

A cancelled cop parody show starring Leslie Nielsen and that was rebooted into the "Naked Gun" films afterwards. It has some great visual gags and the guest stars that get killed even before the credit sequence is finished is a great gag (that "The Grand Tour" in a way recycled as a gimmick for their first season). But some jokes get tired fast like when people take things too literal and the scripts do follow the same pattern with minor changes. It was okay with that it ended up with only 6 episodes or this humor series would have gotten tiresome pretty fast.

@jim222001 Legend has it the network executives cancelled this show with the criticism that it was the kind of show viewers had to WATCH. The philosophy for TV programs at the time was simple plots, simple characters, and simple shows that people didn't have to actually watch, so they could have the TV set on and 'listen to' from the other room while they cooked dinner.
