There is a ridiculous amount of self-justification about liking the show going on, in this thread and in general. Almost every person who "likes" it, is quick to point out how they think the premise makes absolutely no sense, but then follow that up with, "... but it's so cool, let's see what they do to explain it." That implies that the writers planned this bizarre setup, in order to give the viewer an explanation for these issues in later episodes.

I don't know how someone can have make the criticisms about the show many are making and then turn around and say it's a good show. If the writers base the show in our physical universe, electricity can't disappear. It is possible to knock out electricity temporarily, and ruin electrical devices with something similar to an EMP. But electricity doesn't disappear forever, it exists all around us, not just in things we plug into the wall. It's a plot hole, from bad writing.

And that doesn't even factor in how apparently none of the survivors are aware of anything that happened in the world prior to electrical technology. Combustion works, because bullets work. Steam power works, because... well because it does. But no one on the entire planet is aware of this. I guess there was a global conference for people with working brains around the time of the incident and they were all in planes when the electricity went out. All the smart people are dead.

Maybe that's the explanation! This show is about what would happen if only stupid people survived. It's Idiocracy with swords!! :)

The Munro Republic is poor, that's why they don't use steam engines. Whereas later you are introduce to the Georgia Federation which DOES have steam powered cars/boats etc as they are wealthy.<br /> <br /> Also no electricity isn't a plot hole from bad writing, it's called science fiction. If you bothered to stick around and see why there was no electricity, you would understand (not writing here for spoilers sake). You know Star Wars had space ships and a death star, is that a plot hole from bad writing? No, it's called science fiction. Just because we haven't invented it today doesn't make it a plot hole if its invented within the boundaries of the story.<br /> <br /> Your review sucks.

"The Munro Republic is poor, that's why they don't use steam engines"<br /> Really ? You really believe it or you're just trolling ?<br /> Boiling water in pipes is for rich people ? The Monroe republic was so poor that they can make a steam engine despite it was invented in 16's century.

xLite - no, hold on. <br /> "Just because we haven't invented it today doesn't make it a plot hole if its invented within the boundaries of the story." <br /> Just because we haven't invented it yet? <br /> A small reminder, electricity is around us, in us, is part of us- it is the essence of our being! Without electricity there would be no humanity and yet in Revolution people are doing just fine. <br /> Then, they consume food in Revolution, do you know what bees are? Living creatures. Living creatures need energy/electricty, so their bodies can work and fulfil a certain purpose. <br /> In Revolution there are birds. Birds need electromagnetic fields, without it they go crazy. I haven't noticed any crazy birds in Revolution. <br /> In Revolution people live on Earth, ever heard of gravity or kinetic energy? Energy is /indirectly/ electricity. Then there is a sun, probably worm holes and other stuff you no little about. <br /> <br /> Yea, I agree with you, it's Science-fiction... but, the genre does not justify a bad script.

@davisnl According to Trakt, you've only seen 2 episodes of this show. If you'd watched further, you'd have gotten your explanation. Also, science fiction will be science fiction...

@thestefbauwens Responding to my criticism of people’s self-justification for liking a bad show by doing the exact same thing is fun. Especially a show that was cancelled six years ago. Bad science fiction is bad science fiction. Excusing bad writing by saying the whole genre is based on bad writing isn’t much of a retort. Yeah, there’s a lot of bad science fiction... but good science fiction exists. This is bad science fiction. It was a bad setup that had even worse writing.<br /> <br /> Yes, I only watched a few episodes, it was probably more than two IIRC. There are spoiler tags here for a reason had anyone wanted to specify this brilliant explanation they supposedly gave. Regarding what someone else mentioned about characters not having steam power because they are poor, that’s foolish. If you want to amaze me with the explanation about electricity disappearing, tell me. I’m not gonna go back to a badly written six-year old show

@davisnl I never said that science fiction is based on bad writing. I'm saying that you're deciding that this was bad writing just because of the plot, whereas you haven't seen anything of the plot. If you think it's badly written, you have the right to. But you don't get to decide that it's a bad plot if you haven't even seen it.<br /> <br /> I don't need you to get back to the show, but what I don't like is you commenting on the plot of a show when you haven't seen it. I'll give you the reason why the power went down. They gave it midway season 1, with flashbacks and all. The blackout was caused by
a computer virus of sorts — tiny machines the size of a virus. The machines had two controls: absorb electricity and replicate. The latter got out of control. The tiny machines are in everything, including the air the characters are breathing.
<br /> <br /> You might think it's an unplausible plot whereas I think it's quite plausible. But that's what I mean when saying that science fiction will be science fiction. It's fiction.

@thestefbauwens LOL. Micromachines that suck the electricity out of everything and are in the air you breathe. Magically though it didn’t kill people, who would die if such a thing existed. So plausible.<br /> <br /> You are excusing bad writing by citing the shows genre. What I originally commented on was the show’s bad writing and now you’ve given another example of it. This is bad science fiction. Good science fiction exists, so using the genre as an excuse is kind of a slap in the face to writers who aren’t terrible.<br /> <br /> I don’t care if you don’t like my comment. My opinion stands and based on your explanation that opinion was justified. Playing comment police on a site like this telling people what they can and can’t have an opinion on is really quite pointless. It smacks of fanboy type of behaviour. We disagree on the show, that’s allowed. Move on or post that you disagree. However, telling me I can’t have an opinion on the plot is just a cop out and rather childish. If show reviews couldn’t be written until a reviewer has seen the whole show we’d never get show reviews. You certainly couldn’t comment seeing that you’ve only watched half the episodes. That to me seems ridiculously restrictive and silly. But anyways... it’s a bad show. You disagree. C’est la vie.

For me, the first season had ups and downs. The beginning was a bit slow, I remember enjoying the Pilot but the following episodes were a bit slow-paced, which may be the reason why a lot of people said it had "bad writing", though I don't agree.

I mean, a lot of shows have a premise like that and take a while to explain... in LOST, the true reason for the plane crash was only explained towards the end of season 2!! Either way, they already revealed why the power went out, but people dropped it in the beginning.... if I dropped shows because of the premise, I would have missed many of my favourite ones.

I'm not saying that it's perfect, it does have a lot of flaws and some details that I don't like, but like I was saying, it had its ups and downs along the season, I liked the parallel stories (specially when they were about Neville, great Giancarlo Esposito :P) and it got way more interesting in the second half. I had mixed feelings about the finale, though.. the whole Randall thing was weird.. and I refuse to believe what Neville has accomplished in the last two episodes. (Plus, can't Monroe be reached by bullets or what?? That was impossible.. I know it's for the sake of the plot, but those guys suck at aiming :S)

I actually enjoyed watching this TV series. Improvements could be made in areas but overall the show just wasn't being produced to its full potential. Although it had a great plot.

I'm really sad this show got canceled. I was really hoping to see a second rise to power by the Sebastian "Bass" Monroe. Only this time his empire controlling the entire eastern seaboard, not just the northeast. R.I.P. Revolution, you truly will be missed. Another instance of NBC canceling a show for no reason, other than to insert another show of equal or lesser caliber into it's time slot, with the flawed hope it will reign in better ratings.

Really? This show has turned out to be misrable. Each episode is about the same thing - kill someone, revenge, a very long walk, monroe/rachel/miles arguing. And also after someone has been killed, lets just introduce someone new to kill. This show simple didn't develop into something - it was merely a never ending loop with a few episodes to expand it. Just like 'The Event' and 'Flashforward'. I'm glad this show finished. I just waited for an ending. Hopefully it will wrap things up properly!

I've seen all the first season with less and less hope at every episode.
At the end : It's one of the worst show I've seen. I'd hope for a good post-apocalystic, steam-punk show and I have a bad soap with mousquets and sabres.

A face/palm every 10 minutes. The explanation of the desapearence of the electricity is not the problem, but WHY everyone forget about steam ? About Diesel engine ? and others ? In one of the episode Monroe was happy because they can repair a steam train... 10/15 year for that ???

And the end of the season ! I hope it's a joke because it's really ashamed.
Every bad movies' "cliché" are in this show. Perhaps it's the writers' will : mentionned every "clichés" and see if there is enough people to like the show.

The lack of intelligence in the show isn't even the worst part, it's just the tip of the iceberg of mega fail that is Revolution.<br /> <br /> That being said, it's my new Jersey Shore, i hate it so much i want to watch it burn, but i just can't wait to see the train wreck that it is.

Is there a good reason why we should side with the rebels, other than because " 'merica number one!"? It's hard to side with them when it seems they would be just as bad at running things as Monroe is (which is not that bad).
