Star Trek Into Darkness raises a lot of questions. Like why did both Marcus and Khan have such convoluted plans to get what they wanted? Why did Alice Eve’s character need to be shown in her underwear? Why did they decide to swap Spock’s sacrifice for a Kirk sacrifice? How does kicking a warp core a bunch of times fix it? Why would Khan think that torpodeos would be a safe place for his family? How are people beaming to other planets and beaming explosives to other ships? How is there any tension when SUPER-BLOOD exists?!

The Twilight Saga took the world by storm and became an incredibly successful movie franchise. The “love story” between Edward Cullen and Bella Swan was one for the ages. Maybe. Probably not. Unwilling to give up on some extra cash, Hollywood actually decided to split up the final Twilight book into two movies: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and 2. Both movies raise a lot of questions. Like why was this made into two movies?! Like why didn’t Edward and Bella push their honeymoon back a little? How did Edward get Bella pregnant? Why is everybody so mad about this baby? How is Bella so good at being a newborn vampire? What’s going on with the baby’s face, and why did Jacob immediately fall in love with it? Was the only entertaining scene of this whole franchise really just a vision?

After the massive success of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Hollywood understandably wanted to find another way to cash in on the works of JRR Tolkien. That came in the form of The Hobbit trilogy, starring Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins. The only problem? While The Lord of the Rings trilogy was based on a trilogy of books, The Hobbit trilogy was based off a single one. So yeah-- there’s a lot of filler. The Desolation of Smaug definitely raises some questions. Like why do these dwarves keep getting captured every few minutes? Is Bilbo really going to have to use the ring every time to help them escape? Why does he keep removing it in key action scenes? Why is Legolas here? How did they think they’d be able to take down a dragon using heat? Why does this movie just kind of end?

Harry Potter carved out a market for popular young adult books being adapted into movies, and studios started scrambling for their piece of that pie. For Fox, that came in the form of Percy Jackson-- a book series following the demi-god son of Poseidon dealing with Ancient Greek stuff all over the place. Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief raises lots of questions. Like why do Greek Gods hang out in the United States? Why does everyone think that Percy stole the lightning bolt? Why does Zeus pick such a specific time for war? Why keep Percy in Camp Half-Blood if Hades can just pop up in the campfire at any time? Why doesn’t Percy show any emotion when seeing his mom die or when chopping off Medusa’s head? What was Luke’s plan exactly? Why did he send them on a quest to collect things that would make his own plan fail?

Like why has all the fun been removed from this thing? Why is Mushu gone, only to be replaced with a whole bunch of other magical stuff? Why is this a superhero movie now? Why was Mulan born with superhuman abilities? What’s up with the witch character telling her where to go all the time? Why aren’t any of her army friends fun anymore? Did she just kick an arrow into that dude’s chest?!?

After Godzilla and Kong Skull Island, Warner Bros keeps the Monsterverse rolling with Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which is leading up to a big monster showdown in Godzilla vs. Kong. The movie didn’t make as much money as the two previous movies and definitely raises some questions. Like what’s up with Emma’s change of heart? Why did she suddenly flip-flop from wanting to kill millions of people to thinking that’s too intense? Why was she so reckless with her daughter’s life? Why did everyone send the Godzilla expert to blow himself up? Why did that one pilot eject his seat directly into the mouth of a monster? Why is it always raining? Or snowing? Or smokey? Why do we keep cutting away to people staring blankly at the action?

For a brief moment in the early 2000’s, people were referring to M Night Shyamalan as “The Next Spielberg.” With popular hits like The Sixth Sense and Signs, it seemed like the director was going to churn out classic after classic. But then came The Village… Lady in the Water… The Happening… Opinions started to change. Then came “The Last Airbender” in 2010, which not only solidified the new, negative public opinion of Shyamalan, but also enraged fans of the animated series around the world. The Last Airbender definitely raises a lot of questions. Like why rush through twenty episodes in ninety minutes? Why is there so much narration and exposition? Why are everybody’s names being pronounced weird? Why doesn’t anyone have any personality? Why does bending look so weird? What was up with that Earth Tribe scene? Who thought this was a good idea?!

The trend of YA novels being adapted into popular movie franchises hasn’t been popular in about a decade, but that doesn’t mean that studios are going to stop trying-- especially when they own the rights to a popular book franchise. The latest attempt at this is Artemis Fowl, based on the hugely successful book series of the same name. The movie adaptation definitely raises a lot of questions. Like did the writers actually read the books or just glance through a wikipedia page? Why is there so much exposition in this thing? Why does the whole thing take place in a house? Why isn’t Artemis an evil genius like he was in the books? What exactly is going on with all this magic stuff? Did we really need to see Josh Gad in Hagrid cosplay shoot a bunch of dirt out of his butt? Who is this movie for?

Back in 2010, with a couple of massive Batman movies under his belt, Christopher Nolan decided to take a break from superheroes before The Dark Knight Rises to blow everyone’s mind with the super popular movie Inception starring Leonardo DiCaprio. With dreams within dreams within dreams within dreams, Inception definitely raises a lot of questions. Like why aren’t these dreams dream-like? Why doesn’t Michael Caine bring Cobb’s kids to visit sometimes? How did Mal frame Cobb for her death from a totally different building? What does that spinning top totem ending mean? Is it all a dream? Is THIS a dream?! What is going on?!!

Jurassic Park was one of the most critically acclaimed successful films of all time, so naturally the sequel wanted a couple of sequels. Jeff Goldblum returned as Ian Malcolm for The Lost World Jurassic Park as the second movie, which was followed by the return of Sam Neill as Alan Grant for Jurassic Park III (that’s roman numerals, by the way.) The movie definitely raises a lot of questions. Like why didn’t anyone check that Paul Kirby had any money before accepting his job offer? Why does anyone think that yelling into a megaphone on Dinosaur Island is a good idea? How are we supposed to be rooting for the Kirby couple? Why does this movie have a talking raptor dream sequence? How did Eric get a jar of T-Rex urine? Why did this movie introduce the Spinosaurus, and why is it a ninja? Why is everybody happy that the pteranodons have escaped?

Batman and Batman Returns, directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton, were big box office hits that brought the Dark Knight to a whole new level of popularity. Naturally Warner Bros wanted another film to follow them up, but had to do so with a new director, Joel Schumacher AND a new Batman, Val Kilmer. Batman Forever definitely raises a lot of questions. Like what’s up with the completely new visual style? Why does Batman adopt a fully grown man? What’s up with those… things on the batsuit? Why is Chase Meridian so obsessed with Batman? Why is the circus being broadcast on live TV? Why does Two Face want to kill Batman, exactly? Why the The Riddler pick the worst spot in the world for his showdown with Batman?

Jurassic Park from director Steven Spielberg is one of the most critically acclaimed movies of all time, so it’s only natural that Universal wanted to make a sequel. Making the beloved side character Ian Malcolm, played by Jeff Goldblum in the main character seemed like a no-brainer. But The Lost World: Jurassic Park definitely raises some questions, other than the strangely structured title. Like why have we never heard of this secondary island before? What kind of a person secretly goes to a dinosaur island knowing the her boyfriend has lived through very significant dinosaur-related trauma? Why is there a little girl in this movie? What’s up with all the characters making insane decisions leading to death-by-dinosaur? Why are we in San Diego?

In these strange and uncertain times, the world has gathered their TV’s and smart devices to collectively watch the weird antics of eccentric zoo owner Joe Exotic in Netflix’s massive hit true crime series Tiger King. The series definitely raises a ton of questions. Like does Joe Exotic actually sing his songs? What made him think he could become President of the United States? How does he keep meeting new husbands? How does a tiger attack barely register as something of note in this show? How is literal Scarface one of the most relatable characters? Why does Jeff Lowe dress like that, and why does everyone call him Jeff Lowe? Did Carol Baskin feed her husband to some tigers? Why can’t we stop watching this show?!

The Matrix was one of the most popular and revolutionary movies of the 1990’s -- so it’s only natural that the early 2000’s gave us some sequels. The only problem is, it clearly wasn’t really designed to be a trilogy. The Matrix: Reloaded definitely raises some questions. Like how exactly is Agent Smith now free and able to copy paste himself? Why are we spending so much time in Zion talking about philosophy and politics? How is anything actually a problem, now that Neo is straight up Superman? How can Agent Smith travel through phone lines into the real world? How can Neo control machines in the real world? Why does the Architect use so many big words?!

Disney and Pixar have put out a whole lot of classic animated films over the years-- but in the past decade the majority of them have been sequels, prequels or spinoffs of their most popular properties. With Onward, they’re making a return to the world of original concepts. They’re bringing us into a world of magic that’s lost its magic, featuring the vocal talents of Star-Lord himself Chris Pratt, as well Spider-Man himself Tom Holland. Onward does raise some questions though-- like how did the invention of planes lead to creatures not flying down the street, or to reach things on shelves? Why are all their technological inventions human-sized if the creatures are the ones that made them? Why doesn’t anyone consider how the mom character feels? Why does every single road trip movie need an encounter with a biker gang? Why are the Simpsons here?

Indiana Jones is one of the most iconic movie characters of all time. Along with his role as Han Solo, playing Indy is one of the defining works of Harrison Ford’s long career. So, in an age of constant reboots and sequels, it was kind of inevitable that Hollywood wanted to bring Indiana Jones back to the big screen. And with George Lucas and Steven Spielberg both on board, this had the makings of something great! Unfortunately yeah no it didn’t work out that way. The movie definitely raises some questions. Like why are we focusing on aliens? Why do the good guys and the bad guys have the same goal? How did they think the nuke fridge scene was a good idea? How does Shia Laboeuf befriend monkeys so quickly and swing through the jungle faster than speeding vehicles? Why did the FBI decide to stop investigating Doctor Jones despite absolutely nothing changing from their perspective? What’s going on with Cate Blanchett’s voice?

Suicide Squad wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but most people can agree that Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn was a standout. So it’s only natural that Hollywood wanted to feature her in another movie! Rather than a straight up solo movie, Warner Bros has delivered Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) which is… pretty much a Harley Quinn movie. The film raises a lot of questions. Like why don’t any of Harley’s enemies use their guns? Where is the Joker and all the other Gotham villains? Where’s Batman for that matter? How is this Roman Sionus guy running the show? Is this the first comic book movie in which the problem is solved via laxatives? Why is there a hyena?! What is going on?!

The Twilight Saga took theatres by storm when it premiered in 2008, with die-hard fans lining up to see Edward Cullen, Bella Swan and Jacob Black do super melodramatic vampire and werewolf stuff on the big screen. Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will forever be associated with these roles. The movie definitely raises some questions. Like why are the Cullens even going to high school-- isn’t that a terrible way to blend in? What’s up with vampire baseball? What does everybody see in Bella? What’s so romantic about almost puking and awkwardly staring at her? Why is a 100 year old vampire so into a teenage girl? Why is she okay with him watching her sleep every night?!

Before J.J. Abrams took over the world of Star Wars with The Force Awakens and the Rise of Skywalker, he revived another classic sci-fi franchise with 2009’s Star Trek, a movie so filled with lens flares it was difficult to see. But from what people could make out, it seemed pretty good! Although the movie was a critical and financial success, it definitely raises a few questions. Like why didn’t Chris Hemsworth abandon ship if he was just setting it on a collision course? What was the point of the young Kirk scenes? How was Kirk qualified to be promoted? How did he happen to land on a remote planet and stumble upon the cave where Spock Prime was hanging out? What exactly do black holes and red matter do?!

The internet had a ton of fun when the first trailer for CATS was released, revealing the true fear that is digital fur technology. With an all-star cast featuring the likes of Judi Dench, Ian McKellan, Idris Elba, Taylor Swift, James Corden, Rebel Wilson and more- CATS is the big screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Now that the movie is out, the few people that paid money to see it probably have a few questions. Like what is “Jellicle” and why do they keep saying it?! What’s up with all these cats introducing themselves and then leaving. Why are some cats magic and others not? Why are all these cats competing in a singing competition where the prize is dying?

Star Wars is one of the most beloved franchises in the world. But between the first and second movie, when nobody really knew what it was going to be-- they tried to capitalize on the success of A New Hope while working on Empire Strikes Back. That attempt took the form of the Star Wars Holiday Special, a made-for-TV movie that’s set in the Star Wars universe and featured Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, and Chewbacca’s family. Okay, MOSTLY Chewbacca’s family actually. The special raises a ton of questions- like why isn’t Luke blinking? Why does Chewbacca’s family have so many screens? How are they accessing live feeds of private establishments? Why did do the bad guys watch a full Jefferson Starship music video? Why is Bea Arthur here and why is she singing? What’s up with that weird virtual reality fantasy lady? And most importantly WHAT IS GOING ON?!

Tim Allen hit gold with Christmas thanks to The Santa Clause movies, and with Christmas With The Kranks in 2004, he attempted to strike gold again! That didn’t exactly work out. Starring Allen, Jamie Lee Curtis, Dan Aykroyd and more, Christmas With The Kranks follows Luther and Nora Krank as they decide to skip Christmas. The movie definitely raises a lot of questions. Like why aren’t any of the characters likeable? Why does anyone even care if they go on a cruise or not? Why not put up the decorations if it’ll get everyone off their backs and cost them no money? What’s up with their daughter landing in Peru only to come directly home? What’s this movie’s message, anyway?

Disney’s Frozen was the highest-grossing animated movie of all time (until it was beaten by Disney’s The Lion King in 2019) so it’s only natural that we ended up getting a sequel. Frozen 2 brings Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven back to the big screen for another adventure. The movie definitely raises a lot of questions though. Like how do you follow up a film that ended with “they lived happily ever after?” Why is Kristoff even in this movie? What’s Olaf up to other than trying to sell merch to kids? Why is this movie filled with so much exposition? What’s up with all the Northuldra and Arendelle soldiers being introduced, only to do practically nothing story-wise?

The first two Terminator movies were some of the most beloved sci-fi action movies of all time. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and James Cameron brought us an exciting world involving killer robots, time travel and a whole lot of running around. Ever since then, Hollywood has been trying to breathe new life into the franchise and make some money off of it. Now James, Arnold and Linda are all back to take matters into their own hands. Terminator: Dark Fate definitely raises a lot of questions. Like why kill off John Connor only to bring back someone with the exact same function as him? Why are these new machines also called Terminators? Why didn’t “Legion” send them back to before people had access to advanced weaponry to defend themselves? What the heck’s going on with Carl?

The Sixth Sense starring Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment was one of the most popular movies of 1999 and was a launching point for M Night Shyamalan’s twist-ending based career. The movie follows Malcolm Taylor, a totally alive child psychologist that’s trying to help Cole Sear, a little boy with the ability to see dead people. The film was a cultural phenomenon, but it definitely raises a lot of questions. Like what exactly ARE the rules of being a ghost in this world? Why do they only seem to apply to Malcolm? Why are all the ghosts so hostile towards Cole if they actually just want to talk? How is Cole going to help ghosts that don’t have currently active easy-to-solve cases? Does this whole movie just exist as a set-up for the big twist ending?

The script for Ang Lee’s Gemini Man starring Will Smith and… Will Smith, has apparently been floating around Hollywood for an incredibly long time. Several stars have been attached to the project before like Mel Gibson, Clint Eastwood and Harrison Ford. Now that de-aging technology has improved a whole lot, the movie has finally come to life… Kind of. The film definitely raises a whole lot of questions. Like why does this movie feel like it should have come out in the 90s? What’s up with the world elite assassin having a best friend who’s a pilot/chauffeur? Why does Clay Verris not use his most powerful weapons right away when trying to take out his most powerful enemy? And what the heck was that motorcycle fight scene?

Disney has been taking over the box office in recent years with it’s live-action remakes of animated classics. While several of these have practically been shot-for-shot remakes, Maleficent at least offered us something a little different: a look at the classic fairy tale Sleeping Beauty, from the perspective of the villain - the evil fairy godmother Maleficent as played by Angelina Jolie. That being said, the movie definitely raises a ton of questions. Like why is she named “Maleficent” which literally means evil? How come she has seemingly unstoppable magic powers, but can’t give herself new wings? Why does King Stefan send his newborn baby to live with strange pixies he literally just met instead of protecting her himself? And why does Aurora become queen?!

IT took the world by storm in 2017, creeping out millions of people with an awesome portrayal of Pennywise the Clown by Bill Skarsgard. Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King, there was still a lot left to the story of the Losers Club of Derry, Maine. And so, a sequel is upon us! This time around, the full-grown Losers have to head back to their hometown to defeat Pennywise once and for all. The movie definitely raises a lot of questions. Like what’s going on with the memory haze and future-telling powers coming from the deadlights? Why did they bring Henry Bowers back exactly? Isn’t Bill going to end up in jail after that house of mirrors scene? Why are there so many jokes in this one?

The Hunger Games was a massive hit when it came out in 2012, right when the “young adult” genre of movies based on book series was going strong. The movie helped shoot Jennifer Lawrence to superstardom and introduced us to the world of Panem and their crazy Hunger Games Battle Royale ritual. The film definitely raises some questions though. Like what’s up with that “lucky” mockingjay pin? Why doesn’t anyone look hungry? What’s up with Peeta’s makeup skills; what kinds of cakes was he making in that bakery? How did Haymitch instantly get over his alcoholism? Why did they divide this into four movies?

Disney is on a rampage of “live action” remakes of their classic animated movies, and the latest film on the list is The Lion King. Director Jon Favreau brings to life our favorite characters like Simba, Nala, Timon and Pumbaa in a way that’s… maybe a little too realistic? The movie raises a lot of questions. Like why did they decide to go SO realistic with the visuals? Why did they cut out all the fun cartoony parts? Why is Beyonce hitting so many notes in a single song? What emotions are these lions even feeling?!

Empire Strikes Back is known not only as one of the best Star Wars movies, but one of the best sequels of all time. Despite it’s amazing reputation it still raises a few questions. Like how did that Wampa freeze Luke’s feet to a cave ceiling? Why was Yoda making him do so many flips? What’s up with the AT-AT strategy on Hoth? Why did Leia kiss Luke?

Avengers Endgame had one of the best theatrical runs in the history of cinema. But not quite… THE best. In a pretty transparent attempt to dethrone James Cameron’s Avatar as the highest grossing movie of all time, Marvel decided to re-release Endgame in theatres with a little bonus content to try and entice people to see it again. But is an intro from the director enough to get people to come out? What about a deleted Hulk scene? Did they include a Stan Lee tribute just to try and tug us by the heartstrings all the way to the movies? Do they really think people will pay for a movie ticket just to see a few minutes from Spider-Man: Far From Home which is set for release a week after the Endgame re-release?

Coming hot off her her Academy Award win, Halle Berry made the career-defining choice of starring in 2004’s Catwoman. The movie was directed by someone who just goes by the name “Pitof” which really should have been a red flag for everyone involved. The movie is cut at a dizzying pace and definitely raises a ton of questions. Like what’s up with all the cat puns? Why did that cat burp in Patience’s mouth? Why is her name not Selina Kyle? How BAD is this detective guy?

Disney has fallen in love with making live-action remakes of their animated classics, taking our nostalgia all the way to the bank. The original Beauty and the Beast is one of their all-time classics, so it makes sense that they would want to cash in on that as well. Although the movie was a huge hit, it definitely raises some questions. Like was there any other reason to make it other than money? Why does the Beast look like a Snapchat filter? Why was the castle randomly crumbling in the final scene? Why does everyone hate Belle so much?

However after a few episodes, GoT fans started to have some questions about the way D.B. Weiss and David Benioff were wrapping up their favorite show. Like what’s up with Daenerys becoming pure evil so quickly? Why isn’t anyone talking about Jon being the rightful heir to the throne? Was that really the end of the Night King? Are scorpions more powerful, or are dragons?

Pokemon has been a worldwide phenomenon since the nineties and the success of Pokemon Go in 2016 shot it back into the mainstream once more. It’s only natural then that a Pokemon movie soon went into development, cashing in on the Pokemon-mania. Detective Pikachu stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular Pokemon, and certainly raises some questions. Like why is the first part of the movie so depressing? What was the bad guy even trying to accomplish by putting everyone in their Pokemon? How did Tim get down that skyscraper so dang fast?

Before Marvel kicked off the MCU and changed the superhero genre forever, the early 2000’s were trying to capitalize on the genre as well, given the success of Spider-Man and X-Men. The problem is, they didn’t really know exactly how to do that. 2003’s Daredevil starring Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner and Colin Farrell, is the perfect example of this. The movie is kind of a mess and raises a whole lot of questions. Like how Daredevil’s powers so inconsistent? What’s up with that weird playground fight between Matt Murdock and Elektra Natchios? Why don’t the villains have any defining character traits other than just being evil?

Just as superhero movies were picking up steam with hits like X-Men and Spider-Man, Columbia took an unconventional comic book character out for a spin in his own movie. Hellboy was directed by Guillermo Del Toro and was enough of a success to justify a sequel as well as a 2019 reboot starring David Harbour. Although the 2004 film is stylistically impressive, it raises a lot of questions. Like what’s up with the bad guys throwing up their banner at secret locations? Why wasn’t Broom afraid of Hellboy when he didn’t know anything about him? Why does John Myers even exist? What’s up with Abe Sapien’s inconsistent breathing? On that same note, what’s up with Guillermo Del Toro being fascinated with mer-men?

Attack of the Clones had the difficult task of proving that The Phantom Menace was a fluke and that the prequel trilogy was still a super good idea. If you ask most people, it failed pretty hard at that. The movie brought us Hayden Christensen as an Anakin Skywalker in his late teenage years, transformed from a tiny little pod-racing enthusiast into a creepy guy that stares at women for far too long and whines about everything. George Lucas also put the pedal to the metal in terms of CGI, using some in virtually every single shot. The movie also raises a ton of questions… like why was Anakin assigned to protect Padme when there were so many qualified Jedi just sitting around? What exactly does she even see in him? Why does Yoda walk into a fight with a cane and suddenly bounce around like a pinball?

We’ve gotten a whooooole lot of Spider-Man movies over the past two decades. From Tobey Maguire to Andrew Garfield to Tom Holland, there have been a ton of incarnations of the Marvel web-slinger. So apparently Sony took it upon themselves to cram as many NEW incarnations of the character into a single movie as humanly possible. The Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse brought us Miles Morales, an older chubby Peter Parker, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Ham, Peni Parker and Spider-Man Noir. The movie is great, but it does raise a few questions… Like what was Gwen doing for a full week? Why didn’t Kingpin ever finish Miles off when he had the chance? How does that machine even work, anyway?

Everybody loved the original animated version, so the cash grab makes a lot of sense. Looking back at that original movie though, it definitely raises a lot of questions. Like what exactly are Genie’s powers. How old is Jasmine and why are we even watching this? Why doesn't Jafar use his mind control powers to get what he wants?

The Internet still hasn’t gotten over Bee Movie starring Jerry Seinfeld, a super weird movie that exists almost solely as a vehicle for bee puns. The movie raises a TON of questions and contains a lot of head-scratcher decisions. Like why do bees have cars? What’s up with a bee and human love story? Why didn’t the writers do any research on bees? Why did the movie suddenly become a courtroom drama?

EVERYTHING THEY’VE BUILT WILL FALL! Apocalypse is definitely one of the angriest and bluest villains the X-Men have had to face.
