Screw

Not a great show at all. Advertises itself as a darkly comic show and yet has no laughs and rarely moves towards a darkness that isn't tepidly predictable. All of the characters are terrible - not just terrible people who are racist, nasty, cruel, unlikable - but terribly written. You assume that when a show can use strong language and mature themes, that it will treat the audience like adults, but it falls quickly into nonsense melodrama and boring storylines. Both the main plots - Leigh's history and Rose's motivations - are rarely explored and are weak by the end of the season. Too many characters are just left by the sidelines, similar to a victim in CSI. If you want a good prison show, watch Oz, one that treats its characters - both prisoners and officers - with respect. The worst of it is that this will probably get a second season, one which I will not watch.
