It's okay but there are so many mistakes in the storyline, so much stuff that does not make sense at all that it sometimes hurts to watch. The cinematography is on a really high level - indeed. However, the inconsequence this storyline was written with is disturbing and makes this whole thing a bit of a painful experience. I quite skipped trough it to at least get an overview where this is going.

Maybe they should have done a deep dive how cultures would really develop under these given circumstances. I find it hard to believe that all those people do not know absolutely anything just because there was a virus. And given the fact, that there is no further explanation I bet Apple itself does not have an explanation how this scenario makes any sense.

The only reason I can see why people would give this series a good rating is because of the cinematography, the cast and because it was done by Apple. Because besides those superficial reasons, there is nothing really that justifies a good rating.

@vincenzokoestler Sight is not something that is easily explainable to people without it. Given that a large quantity (I don't think they clarify on that) of generations have passed, I could see how globally humanity has forgotten about it. With that other senses would become more developed, which would explain ayuras and the other roles. I guess I don't find it as badly written, or painful, as you do.

@vincenzokoestler It's not like the virus hit and they all forgot about everything the next day. 600 years has passed since.

@vincenzokoestler I take it that you've only seen one or two episodes. How many episodes do think it would take to show the development of an entire world losing its sight. In the beginning the show states that centuries have passed, and this is where they are at. Their hearing is highly developed, amongst other senses. Just go with the flow, Vincenz. @unklez it’s nowhere said that 600 years passed. Moreover, it never happened before in any way that the human race developed backwards. That would not really make sense. We would never accept to give up everything we achieved so far and I am pretty sure not being able to see would not really change that. Okay maybe all the sane people were killed by the virus and nobody being able to think rational survived. That might be an explanation. However no real explanations were given so far which might be due the reason that the producers do not really have any.

@rfsbraz it’s understandable that people would forget how to explain being able to see. I am not going to argue about that point because it actually makes sense. What I do not accept to believe, however, is the fact, that all human living forgot about everything we achieved so far. Moreover, it kind of implies that blind people would not be able to achieve similar and that if you are blind the best you can do is get thrown back to Stone Age. Now you tell me if this is in any way appropriate.

@marve64 If you look closely, you will find out very quickly how many episodes I have actually seen. (It’s right below my comment that I have seen 3/4 episodes.)

It’s not about the amount of episodes it would need to take to develope the story given the very high paced storytelling so far. Much too many mistakes have been made in terms of cultural development. The whole story implies that blind people are not capable of living in a modern environment and they would get thrown back to Stone Age. I wonder how blind people would feel about the storyline. Moreover I do not believe that the human race would leave everything behind we achieved so far. This would not make sense in any historical context given the fact that the human race NEVER before developed backwards.

It seems clear to me that, given your rating and your language („just go with the flow“ is literally the worst recommendation ever given in a review) your opinion on this won’t change. Although most critics say exactly the same as I did in my review when this series came out.
Have a nice day buddy.

@vincenzokoestler I have only watched one episode, hence my rating, show me a piece of fantasy without mistakes, flaws, call it what you will. How do you explain to an audience in one hour the development of a word losing a primary sense, over centuries. A scenario whio as never occurred, so no one really knows. Will you be watching the remainder of this season?
Or have you stopped? Seeing as it's so bad.

@marve64 It seems like that you are trying to defend the show by arguing that it is „not that bad“ but on the other hand you are giving it a 10 out of 10 which means the best of the best. That does not make sense - you know that right? Especially as you have only seen one episode. So I assume the rating you are giving is primarily based on the sympathy to the company the show was produced by (might that be true?) ?

Flaws and mistakes are human and are therefore totally fine. What is not fine, however, is total ignorance about human history and cultural development.
This one is not set up as a fantasy in a fantasy world. It’s set up as a futuristic scenario of the human race. This is a different category than fantasy series like game of thrones or Star Trek. There should be at least some foundation when it comes to Anthropologie and cultural history.

And to answer your question: YOU DO NOT. I would say it’s impossible to do such a complex story and try to describe the situation within 50min. It was their decision to do that. They could have taken 6 episodes to develope a foundation for the whole thing and describe how everything happened. But they did not. And that is exactly the reason why this series sucks so bad. Because the did. not took the time to make it work. The idea itself is great but the execution is just bad.

And yeah I might check them out after they are all released and skip through them to see if they managed to make at least something out of the mess.

@vincenzokoestler Please don't drift your arguments into "appropriate" territory. This is fiction, and should be seen as such. This is in no way making a statement about blind people as much as breaking bad is glorifying drugs. Besides, do you think that nothing we achieved is related to sight? The world would be completely upside down. I get that its a giant stretch to fallback into the stone age, but that whats makes it intriguing to me, as a story.

There is no noise. You get thrown in a world with a simple explanation on how it came to be and how it works. You know who the enemy is and what he is after. Its that movie night show people want but rarely get. Beyond that the cinematography is top notch the actors are good and the idea is unique.

just came to say what you said. I think the person who commented saying it doesn't make sense. Just doesn't get it. It's meant to be 100s if not thousands years after the virus. just think 8 billion people go blind society breaks down and what remains and what survives start to rebuild. I mean how much do we really know about survival if we did not have the internet to hand let alone a book that we can no longer read. This show was indeed unique as you have said. Glad to see someone stuck up for it :)

It’s a strange one, certainly original. I didn’t think it started well, it even seemed a bit silly. But, I’m glad I’ve kept watching, as it’s growing on me and I find the concept interesting.

It’s thought provoking in a way, considering the basics of the story and how the world would be in such a situation. It’s something I’ve never given thought too.

I don’t particularly understand the sexual scenes or the relevance to why it’s part of the story, it just seems stupid to think they’d use sexual pleasure as a way to pray or communicate to god. It’s weird and unnecessary.

I’ve watched 3 and as much as I’ve enjoyed it, I think the storyline maybe predictable. However, I do still love the basic concept and the thought in to how the world would adapt and progress under those circumstances.

Looking forward to watching more and hope my initial thoughts of being predictable are proven wrong; it’s still early days.

@ angel1online the sexual theme is used as a prayer as the queen forks her prayers towards the god she loves earthly (I don't say a name so as not to spoil) and the divine god.

Enjoyed the first and even the second season more than the third. Fair bit of padding and dragging out in the later episodes though and while it's an interesting story line, as others have mentioned, you could drive a bus through the holes in the story credibility wise. The sulky kids in the shape of Haniwa and Kofun really grate after a while too!

A very enjoyable watch!

It started out interesting if not a little bit strange. I was worried that it would be dark and twisted.

By the end I was hooked and I cant wait for series two.

The good:
There is a lot of action in this series and there are some truly awesome fights. Baba is the man!
The scenery is stunning (ironic)
The character grow on you and they are mostly well cast
It is original enough to keep you interested
Suspense is built well, but doesn’t wait until the end of each episode to give you anything of note (looking at you umbrella academy).

The not so good:
Sometimes I think the directors forgot the characters couldn’t see, therefore allowing them to perform impossible feats
Needless elements that added nothing to the story (pleasuring the queen when having visions?)

Overall, what a ride! I really loved Baba as a character and I really enjoyed the story. Well done Apple.

Sorry but this series is just stupid. The storyline doesn't make sense, blind people run around in a forrest but never run into the trees but always passes them etc. etc. I fully agree with Vincenzo Köstler that it does look good though.

I've stopped watching the series as there are so many great series to choose from so why spend my time on this production.

For blind people, they certainly can see a lot. They can even throw a grapling hook! And hit the target.

I feel like someone meant this as a joke but people are taking it seriously.

They call masturbation prayer. That scene had to be a joke! They wouldn't even put that in a Naked Gun movie, because it's too stupid.

I stopped watching after the first 15 minutes of the first episode. Blind people fighting like Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee on cliffs with rocks sticking out everywhere. There's no way I can shut off my brain to that point and I'm glad that point was reached rather sooner than later. Those first 15 minutes suggest that there will be more and perhaps greater battle so no thanks. What else, building and flying airplanes? Makes no sense at all and I honestly don't understand how people can just ignore it.

@phunkie yeah, building and all. And why not? The population is blind for generations, their whole world, society, environment is adapted to beeing blind. In addition its a fantasy show... Do you actually know some blind people? Given thing, they don't have super hearing or fighting skills, but live alone, working, do sports, actually do a fucking lot of stuff, in a world where nothing is adapted to them!

I actually don't think, given the things I said before, that this is too far fatched.

I was a reluctant convert to this series. I was skeptical of the premise of a devolved civilization due to the populations loss of vision (even the statement drips with allegory). However, the first episode quickly swept me up in an escalating sense of peril and I was hooked. The direction is mortally flawed by all sorts of logistical inconsistencies but the struggle, some solid cast choices, interesting characters and the beauty of British Colombia kept me watching. I give this first season of the series an 8 (entertaining) out of 10. [Post-Apocalyptic Drama]

Great world building and felt bot expansive and claustrophobic at the sometime. Innovative in exploring a world where the blind lead the blind and sight is an aboration. Well scripted and mix of adventure, family drama and action in and post apocalyptic world.

I for one am looking forward to where they expand to in season 2. Id like to see more threat and expand on the family dynamics and insecurities but a promising start. Great to see a studio taking a stab at something fresh and new rather than reworking old stories and concepts.

You have to turn your brain off & cover your eyes to watch this show. Amazing audio & visuals but beyond that is absolutely shite. Blind people would not be able to all this they do in the show. No one ages. Their color coordination is perfect. Their hair is always perfectly styled. Watching the queen pray is beyond painful. The kids start reading like magic. They pack all learnings of humanity into a box full of box. It’s just dumb. I can’t believe Apple paid for this nonsense...my advice, ignore all the positive reviews & stay away. If you want to turn off your brain & enjoy audio / video than watch this crap.

Ignore the other comments and also ignore the plot holes on what blind people can actually do. This is show is good, really worth a watch.
The acting is good, Jason Momoa kicks ass and there are so many plot twists you'll never see coming. It is a GOOD story, the scenery is fantastic, the pacing matches an 8-season episodes show. I'm looking forward to the second season!

I thought the ending (cliffhanger/new arc point for a 2nd season) to this was really good. Those last two episodes were worth the wait, especially that fight scene. I still couldn't understand why people wore colour coordinated clothing and looked very clean 99% of the time but despite this it did provide a great insight into sighted/non-sighted folk. I would like to hear from a recently sighted person. Another thing I didn't understand is why parents would, on discovering their child had special powers, wouldn't teach them to hide it by training them so as not to rely on it. Towards the end this became an obstacle to them, but the world they were born into would have made this a necessity at birth, if they were to live unexposed. I almost gave up on it but persevered just because the acting was solid. Also because it was post-apocalyptic, which given society and my personal predilections from my long years of reading sci-fi and fantasy, so I jumped aboard willingly.

Another glaring thing I just realised is that one group of non-sighted people who could move ninja-like, silently amongst people were called 'Shadows'. I just wonder after two hundred years in what ways language would change without writing to keep it anchored semantically and phonetically. What words would prove to be redundant socially because of these prevailing conditions. Would they serve as magic (fossil) words, like Latin is used for religious and arcane subject matters.

I can SEE how some people are easily pleased, but come on folks , the story makes no sense whatsoever, they can't see but can make elaborate costumes, ok the cinematography was good, I know its fantasy and one is supposed to use one's imagination, but films are visual and that medium requires some form of reality to convey the story.
