I thought the first episode was interesting, if not a little slow. I am now 4 episodes in and I am hooked. Really familiar tropes are turned on it’s head and it’s such a great watch. I wasn’t a fan of umbrella academy as I thought the pacing was terrible, however with ‘the boys’ I feel so far they’ve nailed it. Everything feels relevant and not filler, I can’t wait to see more!

Edit: finished now, a brilliant watch throughout. The quality of this show put into context what has been wrong in other superhero shows for me. A breath of fresh air in a stagnating genre. Great job guys.

Yes, yes, yes this is what the super hero genre needs. Fresh but gritty thanks to the R+18. Hooked after 1 episode. Keep up the heroics Amazon.

This show has probably one of the worst main characters I've ever seen. The supporting cast is not much better (except Starlight but even she was kind of soured). The most interesting character to me was Black Noir and he didn't say a word during the 1st season.
The pacing and lack of world building are atrocious to a series that is only in its 1st season. It hurts me to see that after 8 hours I gained nothing from watching this.
The ending is very unsatisfying.
Innovative/Different doesn't mean good.

BE ADVISED! When they say "TV-MA," they mean it. This is NOT a show for kids or even teenagers. I thought the First Season was hilarious and very well done. However, the second season falls flat on its face. They lost their creativity, they filled it with all the standard Hollywood clichés about Nazis..... and other trash. They could've done so, so much better. The first season is amazing, but I leave it to you to judge Season 2.

Wow. Simply wow. This show is amazing. Ignore all the haters, they don’t know what they are talking about. This show has no shame to go after everything which is just brilliant. Love the bit about religion...this is the superhero show for people who are tired of the same formula used by writers for the past 50 years. Ignore all the reviews & watch the show.

Offensive, Vile, Paranoid, Violent, Perverse, Dehumanising, Base. For some reading these adjectives, this will be a positive review, "Gotta see this, just love lurking around in the dark!" For me this is an indictment against a growing trend in art to elevate the vile and stigmatize hope or goodness. This message is all the more dangerous when marked by good performances, a powerful production, and digested by an immature audience (and I don't just mean chronologically). Good and evil have been a part of the world's framework since the beginning, but, folks, when our creative communities slander and misrepresent good as evil and frame life as inevitable moral failure, they precondition our culture to see a future without hope or choice. I won't support this project and rank it as a 3 (vile) out of 10. [Super Hero Noir]

@nancyldraper-gmail-com I am surprised there is no response in the last 4 years but I am curious here so I'll have to ask this;
when you say "slander and misrepresent good as evil", do you actually mean The Seven are good? or maybe who even is "good" in this series would be a better question.

@nancyldraper-gmail-com you sound like the kind of person who goes to the strip club to complain about the tits. If you knew what a strip club was, the function it served, the clientele it was after, and cared to get to know any of the strippers, you'd maybe find the perspective to say anything coherent about them. You think The Boys is trying to elevate the vile and stigmatized? That's our first clue that you've not only disregarded the series, but are wholly unfamiliar with the graphic novel as well. You call the message "dangerous," as though the things we should be worried about in modern society are TV shows likening the worst character to the fascist trends that are, you know, actually happening? See a future without hope or choice? You do an incredible amount of mind-reading regarding "the culture" and what they're seeing in watching absolutely brilliant pieces of television like this.

This show is an examination. It holds the mirror right up against our noses regarding violence, how we justify it, who's happy and wanton in how they carry it out, and how we play along and disregard the consequences. This is as explicit a repudiation of things you claim to be its message as exists. You want to claim the audience is immature? Maturity comes with experience. Perhaps you live in a world of significantly less violence than I do. Must be nice. Your first word is "offensive." To you. Offensive to you. That says nothing about the work itself nor shows you have even the inclination to clue in to what it's about.

What a waste of good actors (and of my time). Although a quite good idea the execution is simply boring.

This show is brilliantly put together! Dark humor in all the right places and entertaining as hell. Karl Urban is fantastically balancing maniacal and sensitive in one character. The logic of the corrupt superheroes feels so real, it causes me to look at Marvel characters in a different light. My new favorite show!

Just finished watching the four first episodes. The pilot has to be one of greatest pilots I've ever seen. It has everything and I was hooked immediately. And it keeps getting better. I didn't know I needed this. It's really bold and a fresh wind for TV.

This is a show that Zack Snyder could learn a thing or two from.
It deconstructs superheroes in a smart way, while not forgetting about important things like character development, story coherence or pacing.
In fact, this is a show that genuinly has a lot of profound things to say about the military industrial complex, religion, power abuse, and more.
It doesn’t just use fetishized costumes and pretentious dialogue to cover up for its own lack of substance.
Moreover, this show is darkly funny, original and twisted.
Every scene with The Deep in the second half of the season is pure comedic gold.
They could still improve the show by fleshing out some of the characters in Karl Urban’s crew, because I didn’t think all of them were interesting.
Also, the action scenes are straight up bad, but that’s in no way a dealbreaker, because the show isn’t interested in them.

8/10

The Boys is a new refreshing series in an oversaturated market of superhero comic adaptations. The non-canon goofy insecure main character, a Superman parody with a megalomaniac god complex, layered character traits where no character truly falls to black or white zone, but rather grey makes the show even a lot more interesting cause this is a scenario that most superhero movies tend to avoid. There are a few changes to the comics but they are not overdone and even the gender-swapping doesn't feel forced. Brilliant actor team makes everything perfect. Well done.
