The name and description of the show sound like the show would be a documentary. Unfortunately, it's just bad fiction with unlikable characters that seem like psycho- or sociopaths.

The show portrays escorts as soulless, emotionless, purely money-driven, calculating and heartless - like business people. It's as if they don't want viewers to empathize with women who sell their bodies. The message seems to be "they are deplorable human beings".

If you want to confirm your prejudices of escorts, this is absolutely the show for you. However, should you want something with a little more depth, move on and maybe watch an actual documentary.

It would be inconsistent to compare this show to The Secret Diary of a Call Girl. They may have some similarities, but they're both written to present a different outlook on the types of escorts that are in our society.

First, unlike the UK, where Secret Diary was born, America condones escorts/sex workers/prostitutes - whatever you may call them. If you have been watching American TV shows and films, you would be able to sense, there has always been a negative connotation when a girl takes up sex work. And when one visits a call girl, the immoral code is immediately applied. The derogatory term whore, is also freely used to address these women, as well as any girl who enjoys sex casually with men. Oh yes, It's also illegal to be a sex worker, in America (except for the state of Nevada - yet illegal in some counties), in 2016!

That aside, this show is engaging. There's a lot of subtle power-play at the inauguration of her career at a law firm. Her interest in masturbation, her excitement of being watched while masturbating, our curiosity to learn about her supposed "dark" side, and of course our concern on her well being.

The highlight of the show is clearly, when she uses her intelligence in managing multiple situations, when her whole world is coming down. She finally decides that the only way to win the game is to get ahead, as quickly as possible. It's a little rough on the edges, but it could be the intention of the director to bring the imperfections of the character. Overall 7/10, though, I rate some episodes much higher.
