I am a hard critic but I absolutely love this show. You know when you find a show that has the humor that you connect with? We’ll this is one such show.

Don’t get me wrong, in the first few episodes Phil is a sexist loser (and episode 1 is dull as heck). He knows it and isn’t trying to hide it, and that’s the joke.

But stick with it because it turns into a romantic comedy with so many fun shenanigans. It takes off halfway through season 1, and then season 2 it changes with Phil and Carol settling into a relationship and while Phil is still a dumbass, he’s Carol’s dumbass and he loves her and he’s loyal to her.

There are so many funny and heartwarming things in the later episodes. Phil and Todd stealing quick “friendship kisses”, Phil accidentally drinking pee, and then taking another sip to make sure it was pee, and Carol being just a genuine person to all.

That said, it does get dark, but it is supposed to be post-apocalyptic and Phil manages to always see the bright side, even if it’s just a quick “ooh farts”.

So sad this show got cancelled unexpectedly due to the Disney-Fox merger, but at least there are 4 seasons for me to rewatch every few years.

If Will Forte reads this, please reboot the series or at least stop with the Macgruber stuff that’s so fricking stupid. This show was a perfect match with your talents and we want more!!!

Contains spoilers of the first season.

The series starts off really well by introducing the character, his psychological state, and the world he is now in. With too much free time, no real ambition and left to his own devices, time is spent running out of ideas to kill his boredom.

All of that changes when he meets the first woman that survived whatever happened. Then he meets another and suddenly another man pops up, and new people keep coming.
That's where I had to stop watching.

The incessant drama and insecurity of the main character adding to the complete lunacy of all the others just destroys the series. The writers ran out of ideas and practically turned this into a reality show.

All the potential was wasted and hopefully the show will be remade further down the line.
