I really think some people don't understand the history behind the "history" that are watching at all. Many people 'see', but not 'observe'.

This series have a lot of connotations, such politics and social, from a showdown with a dictator; unto to release of real feelings. Almost all characters have a full evolution of her personality... even Naga hahaha.

At first I agree looks like a little child's series, but think is a masterpiece in all respects. I recommend this series to all public, seen or not any other series of the Avatar's universe.

PS. James Cameron's 'Avatar' not included. xD

Indeed. Without giving away too much info, each season basically deals with 1 political ideology: communism in 1, religious fundamentalism in 2, anarchy in 3, and fascism in 4.

@lucasmends I've seen this one, and it's pretty heavy on negativity. It spits straights facts, but it is 1 hour and 34 minutes! And I wouldn't say anyone who likes the show crazy, but if you think it's better than ATLA, you're not okay.

@requenaxii I've observed this show and the more you think about it, the stupider it gets. Just turn off your brain if you want to watch this and enjoy it (some of the things are good though). If you haven't seen Avatar: The Last Airbender, I'd recommend you divert your brainpower there, not on this show.

@requenaxii All are empty allegories almost always undercut by the ulterior motive of the villain; they never really pose any meaningful question or motivate the audience to stop and think; who's good and who's evil is always made immediately obvious from the get-go, which defeats the purpose of each allegory.

Characters that didn't have any logic. Annoying rebellious acts for no apparent reasons. "Wise" elder characters who bicker and are useless. Story line was inexcusably weak, character development was pathetic, and it was altogether a bad show. Original Airbender was good, this was not. Teen drama crap.

I don't know what show you watched, but season 3-4 has some of the strongest character development I've ever seen in an animated show.

@fert-aeiou Have you seen Avatar: The Last Airbender? It's this show's predecessor and is way better. If you haven't noticed, this show is pretty divisive. That probably means it has problems.

@clobsters I did see Avatar, it was awesome. I mention it in the review as I'll point out for you below. I have no idea what you're asking me about TLOK. I obviously comment on it's flaws in the review. I'm confused since you missed that I'd watched Avatar, and not sure what you're on about tbh.

> ... Original Airbender was good, this was not ...

Just watched all of this in a few days without having seen Avatar at all. I thought it was pretty good. Really liked the animation, the rather adult themes for a kids show, and the world built in the show. Pretty good. I'm sad I only started watching it after it was over.

@echelon_four Watch Avatar: The Last Airbender. It's better than this show (it's close to perfection. It's not divisive, it has solid writing, likable characters (with more depth), great animation and great character arcs. The soundtrack isn't as good as TLOK, but it's still pretty good.

Season 1: 5/10 - Unfocused
Season 2: 3.5/10 - Garbage (It's only here to create retcons and plot holes)
Season 3: 5.5/10 - Anarchism rules (Uninteresting villains)
Season 4: 6.5/10 - Finally (the only one I enjoyed because has a solid story and a good villain but losts it self mid-way through)!

Overall: 5/10

The quality gap and the style of writing of this show forces it to be non canon. Not to be associated with the masterpiece ATLA. Miserable attempt at a sequel.

What the fuck is this garbage? I'm almost halfway through the second season and half the show so far has been centered around romantic dramas and politics/courtroom dramas—what am I watching? Fucking Suits? Banal, drawn out storylines, deus ex machinas; this show is not even half as good as Avatar.

@makroni You might like Season 3 and 4 more. Also, try not to look at TLOK as a sequel to ATLA. It's hard not to, but I recommend you try. These shows are so different (for multiple reasons), but it's better to look at TLOK as a spin-off than a sequel. It's not a good sequel, in my opinion.

@clobsters I'm halfway through season 3, and you're correct; it does get better, but it's still nowhere as good as Avatar, sadly. To be fair, very few shows are as good as AtLA, it's just disappointing that a show from the same team can be that far off quality-wise.

@makroni The team isn't all there, writer-wise, as far as I'm aware. If you look on IMDB in "Full Cast & Crew" and look under "Series Writing Credits" for both ATLA, TLOK and compare, you'll see the difference. Also, ATLA's Head Writer, Aaron Ehasz didn't work on TLOK and they didn't find a replacement. I don't think that's the only reason that the series isn't at the same quality, but instead, the team behind TLOK isn't the same as the one who worked on TLOK.

Starts interesting only to give up, try to fix some flaws in the third and fourth season yet still fall in pure neoliberalist garbage. The best thing will always be Korra's trying to piece herself after years of isolation and finding balance with herself. Everything else, especially the romance subplots, is a failure.

Meanwhile the journey of Aang is about a *human being turning into an Avatar*,
*Korra's journey is about an Avatar turning into a human being.* Just as brilliant and as incredible as The Last Airbender. Unfortunelly, some peopole does not sees it that way.

@alexdanvers Aang doesn't just learn about being the Avatar. He comes of age, overcomes his fears and learns to stay true to himself. ATLA isn't all about Aang becoming the Avatar. It's about him learning to forgive himself (after running away) and growing up.

Have you noticed how divisive this show is and looked at TLOK's flaws? This show is nothing like Avatar: The Last Airbender, so I wouldn't say it's "just as brilliant and as incredible". The Legend of Korra is beautiful in its own way.

@alexdanvers Because it's objectively bad, but I subjectively think it's good. It's writing is a mess but it's a beautiful mess. This show isn't as good or incredible as ATLA. I'm just trying to point out that saying TLOK is "just as brilliant and as incredible" is a pretty bold statement that should've been given more thought. I'm here to call out nonsense.

Alright, my bad. I wasn't trying to change your opinion. I like the show too, but just not to that extent. I'm sorry for bothering you.

I was trying to point out that TLOK isn't just as "brilliant and incredible" because they are completely different shows, therefore making it unfair to compare the two on the same level. They are players in two very different games.

As the successor to Avatar, I feel like many people had their hopes up that it would be the greatest thing ever. This is not the case, and that's OK. The characters tend to fluctuate in their quality, sometimes seeming to develop one way, only to then change in another way. This gives the show a teenage drama-esque feel to it that some may appreciate and others loathe.
The villains are representative of flaws in society, from oppression to too much governmental control vs. too little. That being said the issues the villains bring up are never really resolved. The biggest offender of this is season two when the political conflict is completely forgotten to instead focus on
giant spirit laser beams
.
So while I still think this is a good show in its own right, its definitely no Avatar. But who can top perfection?

Didn't really like season 1, hated season 2, season 3 was awesome and season 4 was good but not as good as the previous season.

Overall, however, not a very remarkable successor to the one of the greatest cartoons ever made.
