An unexpected science fiction tv show that brings out the adventure and comedy with a unique bunch of characters. I love Seth MacFarlane as the Captain with his own complications and personal issues which have plagued him. Love the characters and the way they were portrayed, and you can feel the comedic punches from MacFarlane already thrown into the mix.

The SciFi part is good, just enjoy the ride, I for one really enjoyed the first episode and seriously can't wait for more from The Orville.

@wyled Don't get your hopes too high. Fox and Science Fiction has had a problem working together. Firefly, Almost Human, Terra Nova, Caprica, Stargate Universe and many more. Maybe this has a chance since its a comedy.

@slvrdragn Hyperdrive was awesome , but other than both being Space comedies I don't see too many similarities . Reminds me more of Other Space since the Captain has to deal with his close relations also being on board .

@scoop20906 Sisko's Wife (From DS9) is Doctor Claire Finn. Not to mention Johnathan Frakes (William Riker, TNG) Directed an episode. and Brannon Braga (TNG, Voyager, Enterprise) is writing & producing.

Is this an homage?
Is it satire gone wrong?
Or just bad sci fi?

@buddhalou First episode had promise. The second flushed it away. The recent third episode made me give up.

Make your own mind up, but damn, what a disappointment.

This is such an interesting balance to Star Trek: Discovery... as though the ethos of these two shows have somehow been swapped. This is light and comedic and trots old territory in a fresh way, and Star Trek: Discovery has gone off boldly where Star Trek hasn't really gone before.

That said, I am enjoying this show's humor and the familiarity of it even though it is absolutely NOT Star Trek.

Forgive, but it is impossible not to make the comparison.

This show is trash. Not as bad as Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning or Supergirl, but definitely in the same category: Interesting concept, garbage execution.

The stories are watered-down copies of Star Trek episodes. The jokes aren't funny. The characters are two-dimensional stereotypes.

We were promised Galaxy Quest. What we got was Family Circus in space.

Only any good if you enjoy Seth Macfarlane recounting/satirising next generation but totally missing the point when attempting to be preachy. Shallow and terribly written. Good acting though.

Seriously this show has the soul of the Star Trek series, I genuinely thought they were launching two shows. It has a goofy feel yet it turned out to have a serious tone and human feel as well, with amazing characters and I'm loving it. Couldn't picture anyone but Seth McFarlane in this role!

I can't wait for more episodes, and I hope they announce another season soon seriously can't wait for more, it just feels that good!

Quite enjoyable with a very strong star trek feel. sadly this feels more like star trek than star trek discovery, and is probably more enjoyable. Discovery is good in its own way but has no feeling of star trek to me at all. This show however has a very strong feeling of nostalgia, even though its a parody, or perhaps because its a parody.

@elsker I like them both, but I feel the same way you do. "The Orville" manages to feel more like Star Trek than "Discovery" does. It's obvious that they're trying to do something different with "Discovery", so it's quite nice that we can count on "The Orville" for some sweet nostalgia rush.

The third season is epic fail. Why the hell they have turned a parody to a hard sjw series? This was supposed to be funny but not anymore.

@dnzt it's supposed to be whatever Seth wants it to be. The move to a new platform meant they've pretty much re-launched it as a more serious show. I miss the comedy but the episodes are amazing

First season was good. Some funny episodes, some ingenious concepts, some interesting adventures.
The second season is a pile of trash. Constantly trying to be political or have a deeper meaning than actually achieved. Overall turns into an unfunny, not interesting boring drama. Really disappointing!

I need to understand, how this show is so poorly rated on RT or Metacritic. It's surprisingly good and such a joyous voyage.

@vishal8492 For some reason, all the "Critics" ratings of the show are Terrible, But all the Fan Ratings are the exact oppisite (Great!)
For some reason, Critics seem to hate it. I'm guessing somone paid them off to give bad reviews (I'm looking at you CBS)
