It lost me when it started in with modern music.

enjoyable, and added bonus the hot priest was in it (though sadly not as a priest, but still hot)

A delight. Unlike some period pieces, this one is fast-paced with touches of modern humour, framing, and music. Highly recommend and would watch again.

This limited series is hard to define. It is filled with eccentric characters and the beginning episode tends to be a confusing, nonlinear mess but the success of this production rests on anchoring yourself with first Linda (Lily James) and then Fanny (Emily Beecham). Each episode is better and more solid than the first, and my ratings reflected that - 6 (fair) E1; 7 (good) E2; 9 (moving) E3, and it is hard not to grade the whole on the merits of the last. I’m not sure this series would have succeeded were it not for the innocence Lily James brought to her role and the stability Emily Beecham brought to hers. These performances allowed their characters to rise above the caricatures of those around them. I’m going to give this series an 8 (great) out of 10, but you may have to work at it to get to the heart of it. [1930s Period Drama]

Loved this! One of my favorite shows of the year. Emily Mortimer has impressed me many times as a performer throughout the years but she's now proven to be an exciting filmmaker with this three part limited series. I'd say it felt like Sofia Coppola's take on a Wes Anderson film, the narration and frames create a whimsical flourish that puts a smile on the faces of the viewers.

Performance wise, I loved the two leads though Lily James definitely deserves some Emmy recognition for her performance here (the tears felt brutal every time). Dominic West was a treat to watch as the hot headed father who's afraid of being abandoned by his offspring. And Adam Scott has some great dance moves: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcIWprH2sVg
