I think the show started quite good... but then it turned into everyone is basically gay, it has no impact on the story, and most of the time seemed a bit forced. Nothing against the LGBTQ community but this is getting a bit much. Every show now has to have 95 to 100% gay characters.

@shrub86 Hi! if it has no impact on the story, then how does it get "a bit much"? It's a genuine question!! the story is the same if the characters are straight, right? then why would it be better if they were not gay? I think it's great we have shows and movies nowadays with lots of representation, since there are quite a lot of gay people in real life, why not create gay characters in fiction and fantasy? I think we've had plenty of decades with shows with 100% straight characters, and a bit of change is awesome!

@shrub86
> Nothing against the LGBTQ community but this is getting a bit much

dude, you're irritated just because there are "too much" gay characters. You have something against them. Do you also feel the same way when there are too many black, asian, or even women as characters? Time to really reflect why a lot of these people present in a movie irritate you this much.

@min93 It is a genuine question, and no the story wouldn't have been the same. But I am fine with gay characters but not the way Netflix thinks they all are. Like I watched The "L" word which is about lesbian and bi women, that is a lot better then how they are in this show. I do agree that a bit of change is awesome. Doesn't mean they need to make 90 to 95% of people every show. I admit my "bit much" comment isn't just towards this show but a lot of shows that are coming out at the moment. I should have elaborated on that a bit better

I know this is a hard pill to swallow, but if you find this show too "woke" because it's too gay and has too much black people in it, you are ~indeed~ racist and homophobic (starting your comment with "i'm not.." won't change anything i fear :/ ). And oh, clearly you haven't read the motherfunckin comics!! This show is insane: the visuals, cinematography, storylines, the acting!!! It leaves you wanting more and the only thing I am made about is it's the fact that that it's still hasn't been renew for a second season....netflix don't pull another sens8 on us please, this is gold!

Wildly inconsistent and disappointing. The first episode is full of intrigue and makes you think this is going to be a dark, mature fantasy drama, only for it to then unravel into what could feasibly be mistaken for a teen Disney movie by the end. Episodes 5 and 6 are very good - wonderful and unique storytelling! They needed to focus more on that sort of stuff than the rest of the mundane, often boring and juvenile plotlines from other episodes.

I will tune into season 2, but if it hasn't improved after the first couple of episodes I will drop it. Being VERY generous giving this a 6/10. If it wasn't for episodes 1, 5, and 6, it would be an easy 4/10.

@ragreynolds yea it's OKish... 6/10 Neil G's stuff doesn't transport well onto screen nor is it widely accessible, still I wasn't blown away by most of the acting nor the pacing of the episodes. Mis en scene is beautiful at times, though.

This is signature Neil. Very intruguing and entertaining. Very inclusive and gloriously gay. Hoping for more seasons.

While it was enjoyable to watch for the first half, it suffers from the usual problems that Netflix adaptations are plagued with. Don't get me wrong, this is a fairly well done adaptation from the comic. However, Netflix's incursiveness rubbed me the wrong way in the end.

I like the story and the emo looking main character. All is ok with fine CGI but why should everybody be gay? It is really unnecessary and they are poking it into your eye.

That was... a snoozefest, pun intended. The concepts on paper are extremely cool and intriguing, yet somehow Netflix here have managed to make another dull adaptation once again.

This reminded me of Legion. Started off great but quickly turned into garbage. The Sandman is excruciatingly slow and dull if not outright boring. I was somewhat enjoying the first five episodes but everything after that was absolutely dreadful.

You know those studios and producers who were pushing unnecessary gender/race-baiting/sexual scenes for the past 50 years? Yeah -- they haven't gone away. They've just gotten more annoying and Netflix is their go to playground. They really want to show that white straight men = EVIL, and that everyone else is hypersexualized. It's strange as shit. Was Gregory the gargoyle gender-fluid!? Did Matthew the raven profit from white privilege somehow? Are these patterns annoyingly visible in lots of shows similar to this one? YASSS. Clowns.

The stories that make up the comic-book epic are sewn together haphazardly and confusingly, never building to discernible arcs and not even broken down into interesting stand-alone episodes. The series is a pile of stories and moods randomly tossed on top of each other.

Only redeeming part? Goth visuals are stunning.

Started off amazing
Then after episode 5 it all turns to shit.
Hated Rose and all her
BS drama, and making her the centre was a mistake.
Between unlikeable characters and a boring story and Dream popping in for a cameo, giving bloody Rose more screen time the second half of this show was a complete mess and ultimately felt like a massive waste of my time. How can a show Be so Awesome at the beginning then be utter bull-crap at the end especially when they had the winning formula right their.
That was a lot of heavy lifting to establish a big production to a season one of the next Big thing on streaming to just blow it in epic fashion like that.
Because in all honesty that second half Sucked
and sucked bad.
And I think I've had all I can take of that.
Thank-You
Gentlemen
And Goodnight.

It started with mildly interesting plot but went downhill with poor protagonist, script, dialogues, and unlikable characters, especially in the 2nd half. Overrated!

PSA: If everything looking stretched is bothering you you can fix it with the Firefox extension "Browser Video Tuner", click on it while the video is playing and press CTRL+2 twice and CTRL+0 each episode. Netflix and Neil Gaiman confirmed it is intentional unfortunately.

Opposite to what I've seen a lot of people say I found the first few episodes a little to slow and cheesy, but the premise kept me intrigued and I'm glad I stuck with it because it became much better, interesting and mind-bending. It's a shame a lot of the gothic aesthetics were tuned down but it's certainly the most goth thing I've seen on TV in the last few years.

It's insane to me how bothered people are about 5 characters happening to be gay. Sure, it's a little much but why care?
You can suspend your disbelief for a world where someone has teeth for eyes, but not that gay people are a little more common?

it's only 2/3 gay. Of the three relationships by episode four two of them are homosexual.

@katebishop speaking as someone who doesn't mind seeing the representation, two thirds of the relationships by episode four are homosexual. The cognitive dissonance is the issue people are having I think.

It was good for the most part.

I don't buy the producers explanation as to why they replaced John Constantine with Joanna for a second (cameos and one-scene appearances of ppl way more famous than Jenna happen all the time...), don't think it hurts the story though.
No idea why everyone needs to be gay or at least bisexual these days though.
