me and my friends started this because it was silly and fun while we took turns in the shower after going to the beach. cut to all five of us crowded onto the single bed sobbing shamelessly and profusely at the last episode. such a solid YA adaptation

I found it depressing and drawn out, and "Belly" quite shallow and cruel
with her bouncing between the two brothers who cared deeply about her.
Part 78 Of watching every Series release of 2023 (An Impossible Task but I try my best)

The Summer I Turned Pretty is a teen drama in its second season surrounding Belly, her brother Steven and their best friends two brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah. Lets start with this, this show is a shallow teen drama with not great writing, shaky acting at times and no real technical achievement value. But who cares this show is captivating and I love it, so much charm, so much drama and I'm forever here for it and forever Team Jelly, I know what happens in the 3rd book and this review is my official request to change it or I will hate the last season. As for the best and the worst the fourth episode is my least favorite as it is somewhat of a filler but the 7th episode is juicy and gossip filled and I had an absolute blast. This show is my guilty pleasure for life.

Season 2: 80/100
Best Episode: episode 7 83/100
Worst Episode: episode 4 77/100

I don’t know if I’m just perpetually “coming of age” but I definitely have an affinity for this genre. I really enjoyed both seasons of this series and look forward to it’s third chapter. The young cast are excellent and the story, that follows the point of view of Belly (short for Isabel), is full of all the confusion and feels of adolescence. Lola Tung is exquisite in this role. But, I found the subplot that followed her mother and her mother’s best friend equally engaging. The Wilmington, North Carolina location is beautiful and perfect to create the family summer get away. I give this series an 8 (enchanting) out of 10. [Coming of Age Drama]

Sweet teen summer show. I love the locale and the story. I like that it has only seven episodes. Excellent for a quick binge.

As far as young adult, coming-of-age, book to film adaptations (which there are many of these days) go, I really enjoyed this. Lola Tung is so endearing and loveable.

I'm an adult who enjoys the occasional YA coming of age film or show. I'd recommend this to most teenage girls but for me it fell short. the show shines when it allows it's characters to be at their most natural. The writers should have leaned into this realness, and this tenderness and subtlety more.

Unfortunately, to fill 7 episodes, they gave into teen cliches. The plot is peppered with incidents like a fight breaking out at a party, a main character getting too drunk and spilling secrets, and even a Debutante ball. Eye roll. So overall, the show is okay and I'll probably watch the second season, but it's hardly bingeworthy.
