Some people are making a fuss that the timeline is confusing. Since this is the internet it gets blown out of proportion. You get a clear hint in one episode this is happening and its easy to figure it out afterwards. That being said, just watch it! It´s really good!

@alvarinho I must admit that the use of time line jumping can be confusing but that does not make this a bad series nor a bad story. If this would be the case then people that really have problem with the use of time should avoid movies like Memento... And not condemn the series because they just don't understand it. So, I agree with you. Just watch this series. It is an amazing piece of storytelling. If the way the timeline is cut up is not someones thing then they shouldn't go about saying it is a bad series only because they just don't get it.

@alexvanniel Ah nice, two ppl telling me I'm too dumb. No, I like time line jumping but it has to be well made and understandable. There is NO hint whatsoever that from one scene to the other we're in a different time. Normally you'd have other coloring filters or different looking characters but with this - non of it. Since I haven't read the book nor played the games it's extremely confusing for me what is going on. I did not however have this problem in any other movie or show before. So stop saying people are idiots when they make a point. It only renders yourself ignorant. For me it makes the show barely watchable even though the story might be good. Changing the LEAD character after S3 is also a no-go for me...

The story and art style definitely seem cool and interesting, but the long, dull, uninspired battle scenes drag on too much, and the sound effects just don’t make sense. Swords whooshing sound like transformers, and it’s all so exagerated, it’s off-putting. Don’t waste your time, this show isn’t worth it.

@whynothugo Fortunately people will know better than to take seriously such fleeting and unsubstantiated reviews; personally I found it to be amazing. My only complaint goes to the unannounced flashbacks which can be confusing at times.

@whynothugo Funny thing that you've dropped it after first episode, while after 1st and 2nd eps I've thought "it's not that bad - esp to write a petition to dismiss a showrunner" (as if it would be only all HER fault). However with every episode it went worse :D I'm not a "Wiedźmin" fan (only read 3 books and I find it "nothing special" although I see few good and strong points of the saga) so my expectations weren't high. But at least they should've made the battle scenes proper.
This kind of series are for teenagers/young adult (<21) I want a little more.

@whynothugo You rated The Mandalorian and The Wolverine below 5, either you have sh*t taste or you just hate mainstream movies and shows for no reason.

@whynothugo so you really think 2 is a fair rating for a show like this because "swords sound bad :("?

amazing criticism from someone who watched 1 episode of the show.

I wish I could give it a 10 (which I very very rarely do) -Season one is excellent in every aspect but one:
The timeline is blurry and confusing as f***.

Events taking place decades apart are only put into their place by a character dropping that something happened three decades ago in passing.
Normally that wouldn't be an issue, but most characters don't age!
I am still a bit confused as to why the bard doesn't age, since he seems to be human (I'm at Episode 6, so I hope they do explain it in one of the last episodes, but I doubt it)
That combinations makes it really hard to keep track of what happened before, what happened after and what happens at the same time.

P.S.: I don't know the books, so I have no idea if they had the same problems.
I took a look at the descriptions for the books though and some elements seem to coincide with the first prequel book. So I assume they are meshing prequel and original books together somehow.

@player8472 Season 1 ends where the main book sort'of strats.
It's hard to follow the timeline as the short stories by Sapkowski were similarly written out of order.
Neither Witcher nor the Mages age as such is the power (and price) of magic.

@player8472 jaskier not getting any sign of getting old was something very badly done. Yen mentions he’s old but he clearly doesn’t seem a day older.

Timeline is what makes this show good, it's really clever storytelling.
Never played the game, never read the books, had no major problems undestanding what is going on.
People just need to undestand that you are supposed to pay attention when watching TV shows, if there is a part that does not require your attention, it is some filler that should be cut out.

@nowyfolder Actually not every good movie or TV show has 100% necessary parts.
Character building often requires to insert information not really needed for the story. And to be fair: The whole Yennefer backstory isn't really needed for the story. The rest would totally work without it (although be less fun and we probably would see her in a different light)

Also: People are different and since human beings tend to space out a few times per hour (Brain fills in the blanks so we don't notice).
Regarding it being good storytelling: I don't think it is! It is an OK form of storytelling when there are clear cues to order the events. Which is why we have the greyish tone for different timelines in most shows.
Other shows show a visible age difference.

This show does none of those things, including the bard which SHOULD HAVE AGED (I read the first two books which start after season 1 in the timeline) and he indeed should have aged as he is a "normal" human being opposed to Jen and Gerald who indeed show no visible signs of aging due to their conditions (Being a mage/witcher).

And I don't believe you when you tell me that you always knew where in the timeline something took place as the clues for that were often given near the end of a particular part of the story.

As i said, it is the only real critique I have and it didn't make the show unwatchable - but it was harmful to the flow (for me) and thus excludes the show from getting a perfect score from me.

The writing is so shallow with very little depth to any of the characters. Hard to care for anyone if you don't know them. The modern dialogue mixed in is funny at times but mostly it came across as lazy. The timeline jumps are cued up rather poorly as well, you're often left asking _wait is this then or now?_

Overall this felt like watching a video game, complete with missions and cut scenes and a few lines of dialogue sprinkled in between. Fans of the game and popcorn flicks will appreciate it more than those who are looking for a show similar to those early seasons of Game of Thrones.

I can't make to episode 2. It's so boring, full of cliches and shallow characters. Never read the books. Never played the game. Didn't like what i saw. It's kind of pathetic and tacky.

when going into this show my greatest fear was that Cavill was not fit for his role, but f**king hell the dude nailed it! I legit thought that they might've hired Doug Cockle (the one who voices Geralt in the video game series) to dub over Henry, that's how similar they sound. And of course Henry delivers more than just voice, his performance was very good. Too bad I can't say the same about any other character in this show... Overall it wasn't bad but it felt kinda trippy at times and the timeline stuff made it even more confusing...

I really liked the show in story/VFX/CGI/choreography wise. But for the good sake of Triss Merigold and Yeneffer, I shall downvote this show on every platform I can. Hopefully one day such productions can learn to pick the right actors for the character.

@aussirkitril No, the former. Also a fan of the game series, probably one of the reasons why I don't find it mediocre, not that I don't understand those who don't get a replica of the game's character look and voice acting, although I find it to be a poor basis for disenchantment, although this is clearly more of a hissy fit than anything.
