[HBO Max] It works best when the main character becomes a supporting character, especially in the final episodes. One of the problems is that they doesn't know how to fit Jake's character into the criminal plot, which is the most interesting and the one that gets the most tension. As fictional as, some say, the real Jake Adelstein's own experiences, the series works well as a crime thriller.

Best 2022 surprise so far hope the quality will be same for all season 9/10

Should have been an seasonal anthology series, would have worked much better, like Underbelly or Fargo.
It's also lacking the Japanese identity and it's not real dark enough.

It looks like a good show, interesting story, good cinematography above par acting and directing. I hated the use of subtitles., I found them to be distracting and of no benefit to to the show. The viewers know the show is shot in Japan and the primary language is Japanese, but who is the target audience?

Urf. At a loss for words.
On one hand, it is a good show, and it's a good adaptation of the book on the (day to day) cultural aspect.
However, as a reader of the book, what I'm most disappointed with this show is that it exchanges the actual [spoiler]human trafficking (kidnapping (foreign) girls, to supply the high demand in Japan for, basically, sex slaves) for... Drugs[/spoiler]. How American. How... Well, not Japanese, betraying the cultural fidelity is was supposed to depict.
In my opinion, that show transforms a very good (actual) story (in the book) into yet another random show.
Meh.

("disclaimer" : it's been a long time since I've read the book. So even though I didn't find (yet) the elements leading to the main plot, maybe it's coming, if they have a 10 seasons something in the works. Still not impress yet anyway.)

Although not my genre (Sci-Fi - Fan) though i did begin watching this show mainly because i love Japanese Culture, however, I've found myself liking this show for the story.

This is definitely one of my favorite shows of the year thus far. Really cool vibe overall that the show has going on. Excellent writing, acting, and cinematography. Thumbs up thus far and I'm expecting the same to continue as more episodes of this season continues. Definitely recommended!

This is an excellent Yakuza-noir series with some impressive characters. The visuals and cinematography are amazing!

It is like watching half a movie...
