You know how movie musicals always cast that one person who is the big star draw but also really can't sing that great? Emma Watson, Russel Crow, Gerard Butler? I feel like that's this show but with Mae Whitman, except she's not even that big of a star draw.

Don't get me wrong, I like her but she really doesn't have the voice to carry the lead of this show. She'd be fine as a side character, but her singing as the lead? Not great. Carlos Valdes does _ok_. Not noticeably bad but not memorably good either.

Other than that, the show doesn't really have many catchy songs, the story isn't that great, it takes place in 1999 for no reason at all, and the characters aren't actually likeable. There's really not a good reason to watch this show.

did not expect to love this AT ALL. it's a simple story that feels sometimes too close to home, with songs you can't help but cry to, and people you'll despise for how relatable they are. it's a show about knowing and accepting yourself, and how we can never really know someone else if we also don't know ourselves and they don't know themselves... got me by the first musical number and will definitely watch again soon.
only downside was the last 30secs of the season where they squeeze a little cliffhanger that does not match the rest of the story at all. i think it works best as a limited series, although i'll be watching if they make a second season (though i highly doubt it)

Ummmmmmm
6/10 FAIR
If you take a romantic comedy add in a pinch of talking and visualisation to the voices in your head, add a dollop of music theatre and you would think you have a show that will be a mess and not work!
But in this shows case it does work, or at least it does once you have got use to it….
The first episode is very very odd, but I think that’s because it’s not what you think it will be and is totally different from what you’ve watched before.
Episodes 2-5 are just fantastic and I can’t praise it enough….
Episode 6 is terrible, totally misjudged by all involved and is best skipped over…
Episode 7 the show has lost its sparkle and I’m not too sure what I’m watching anymore….
Episode 8 redeems it self and starts to take you back to the good start the show had, but in the end your left feeling a little cheated and the show that I originally scored a 10/10 has know become a simple 6/10.

It's like Ugly Betty with songs and without glasses.
