Yet another show by Netflix that's sub-par. Superhero nuns fighting demons and monsters shouldn't be this dull of a dud.

It starts with a massive bang with a squad of women wearing stealth suits, crashing into church shouting about being ambushed by mercenaries. They pull an angel's halo out of their wounded leader. A nun dies to protect this artifact from a demon possessed solider. The opening scene felt like a mix of John Wick with John Constantine stories.

But then the action & show grinds to a halt. Nothing really happens for the first 5 episodes. Things slowly pick up & we get to last 10 mins where bad ass action once again picks up only to end with a massive cliffhanger (you will literally say "what the fuck").

This show was a waste of 10 hours of my life. What great potential this show had, but as usual Netflix gives you dud.

The entire 10 episodes are designed for the show creators to get budget for season 2 (where hopefully something happens that moves the story forward).

I would say wait for season 2 or even season 3 to be released before wasting your time watching this show.

@satanh It has become quite interesting tho, how more and more movies are showing the corruption of the catholic church. When you get a chance, if you haven't watched it already, check out Netflix's Castlevania. Really good show. Interesting story line where the vampire is actually the good guy and the church is str8 up evil.

@whos_ur_buddha To bad... Already watched it and seriously... I would love to read your comment before. Know the damn series are in a cliché moment and we need to wait for it. And who god know when.
Also I thought the series were less "politic" and more action. The trailers sure can decive a person.
Still I would love the show to have action so to say since the plot and main story is damn awesome and original.
Let's hope Netflix doesn't make another bad series...

For as dark and bleak as Warrior Nun can be with it's prominent themes of Good vs. Evil and Religion vs. Science, the cinematography & insane backdrops of Spain, on top of watching series protagonist Ava Silva go from awkward dweeb to SLIGHTLY less awkward chosen one, still makes it a super comforting must see for anyone in search of a fun and supremely meaningful binge worthy show on Netflix.

The series really lucked out with Alba Baptista as THE warrior nun because she’s so likeable and naturally charming as Ava without even trying. You can't help but root for a character like her, and I genuinely don’t think the series would’ve had the same appeal if someone else was cast in the leading role.

But it's also the rag tag team of violent nun misfits that helps round out the cast of dynamic characters. Especially fan-favourite Kristina Tonteri-Young, who delivers a fantastic performance as the tactically trained, and ever reserved, Sister Beatrice--- Ava's best friend and love interest. And while the show offers an exceptionally well written story with substantial and exciting world-building, it's the slow-building relationship between Ava and Beatrice that has ultimately won the audience's hearts.

You don’t realize what real sapphic buildup & stories look like until you actually see one that was always planned to sail with no games or vague undertones to manipulate the audience into watching something that was never going to happen on screen. And Warrior Nun doesn't fall under those usual problematic tropes of queer storytelling. What series creator Simon Barry has chosen to do with Ava and Beatrice (Avatrice) is RARE and honest, and so worthy of celebrating.

Overall, in terms of narrative content, everything to do with the Order of the Cruciform Sword (OCS) & all its lore is top tier entertainment, to the point where it sometimes overshadowed all the side storylines in season 1 when focus was placed elsewhere. But where the show stalled or fell short in terms of action or plot development in its first season, season 2 delivered a much more balanced and refined mission objective.

It was a heaps better than the last season in terms of pacing and combat, epic gore, and romance. Furthermore everything felt SO BIG and detrimental to the plot. It genuinely felt like the few criticisms that befell season 1 were course corrected for the latest season, and that's a sign of a great show runner and creator with a fantastic writers room to back him up.

This show is fresher than fresh and against all odds, it's taking the internet by storm! The fact that the series managed to hold audience attention with such complete lack of support from Netflix in terms of promotional budgeting, to the point where the neglect almost seems deliberate as a means to self-sabotage it's own creation, says a lot about the significance Warrior Nun holds in the fantasy genre as well as geek culture in general. It also speaks to the loyal devoted fan base diligently fighting for a renewal.

Warrior Nun deserves a season 3.

(12 April 2021) Season One: Despite the title (which I confess was so absurd as to discourage me to even watch it) this was surprisingly good. Its source material draws heavily from Catholic lore and its mystery swings between faith and science. Set in beautiful Andalusia, Spain, it is a fanciful version of our times. Alba Baptista is all sass, all girl and pure delight, in stark relief to the stitched up, buttoned down world her character is thrown into. But all the cast bring serious butt kicking action. I hardly believe it, but I give this series an 8 (surprisingly good) out of 10. Just a bit of warning though, the series finale is a cliff hanger, but never fear, season two is green lit to drop in 2022
(10 November 2022) Season Two: No disappointments here, All the things I liked about the first season are here. This season there is more character building and backstories. I love the pace of the show, it is not in such a big hurry to get to the action scenes (which are great, by the way) but willing to sit back in the characters. The cast is wonderful. A side note - all through the first season, I kept asking myself, where have I seen Alba Baptiste before? But, her filmography gave me no answers. This season the resemblance was even stronger until it finally occurred to me it wasn’t her that was familiar, but someone she looked like, Ellen Page (before he became Elliot). Still giving the series an 8 (surprisingly good) out of 10.[Action Fantasy]

Despite the rather mature levels of violence the scripting and tone of this series, places it firmly, in my view, in the teen demographic.

I found much of the dialogue cringe worthy from an adult point of view. It's a little immature and unsurprisingly there's an inject of the woke nonsense, we see everywhere in Western entertainment.

All of which is very much at odds, I would have thought with the rather ugly and often graphic violence, I came across in the first episode.

Acting is passable, as is the storyline but if this was supposed to be accessible to older viewers, I really think this one well and truly misses the mark.

5/10.

She's a warrior. She's a nun. She's a warrior nun!

This show was really good. But I can understand why there's been mixed reviews about this; parts of it made no sense.
But...the last couple of episodes gets real good! A foreshadowing moment (I think) and a couple of jaw dropping twists!

Hope they don't cancel this.
