(12 April 2021) Season One: Despite the title (which I confess was so absurd as to discourage me to even watch it) this was surprisingly good. Its source material draws heavily from Catholic lore and its mystery swings between faith and science. Set in beautiful Andalusia, Spain, it is a fanciful version of our times. Alba Baptista is all sass, all girl and pure delight, in stark relief to the stitched up, buttoned down world her character is thrown into. But all the cast bring serious butt kicking action. I hardly believe it, but I give this series an 8 (surprisingly good) out of 10. Just a bit of warning though, the series finale is a cliff hanger, but never fear, season two is green lit to drop in 2022
(10 November 2022) Season Two: No disappointments here, All the things I liked about the first season are here. This season there is more character building and backstories. I love the pace of the show, it is not in such a big hurry to get to the action scenes (which are great, by the way) but willing to sit back in the characters. The cast is wonderful. A side note - all through the first season, I kept asking myself, where have I seen Alba Baptiste before? But, her filmography gave me no answers. This season the resemblance was even stronger until it finally occurred to me it wasn’t her that was familiar, but someone she looked like, Ellen Page (before he became Elliot). Still giving the series an 8 (surprisingly good) out of 10.[Action Fantasy]
