For as dark and bleak as Warrior Nun can be with it's prominent themes of Good vs. Evil and Religion vs. Science, the cinematography & insane backdrops of Spain, on top of watching series protagonist Ava Silva go from awkward dweeb to SLIGHTLY less awkward chosen one, still makes it a super comforting must see for anyone in search of a fun and supremely meaningful binge worthy show on Netflix.

The series really lucked out with Alba Baptista as THE warrior nun because she’s so likeable and naturally charming as Ava without even trying. You can't help but root for a character like her, and I genuinely don’t think the series would’ve had the same appeal if someone else was cast in the leading role.

But it's also the rag tag team of violent nun misfits that helps round out the cast of dynamic characters. Especially fan-favourite Kristina Tonteri-Young, who delivers a fantastic performance as the tactically trained, and ever reserved, Sister Beatrice--- Ava's best friend and love interest. And while the show offers an exceptionally well written story with substantial and exciting world-building, it's the slow-building relationship between Ava and Beatrice that has ultimately won the audience's hearts.

You don’t realize what real sapphic buildup & stories look like until you actually see one that was always planned to sail with no games or vague undertones to manipulate the audience into watching something that was never going to happen on screen. And Warrior Nun doesn't fall under those usual problematic tropes of queer storytelling. What series creator Simon Barry has chosen to do with Ava and Beatrice (Avatrice) is RARE and honest, and so worthy of celebrating.

Overall, in terms of narrative content, everything to do with the Order of the Cruciform Sword (OCS) & all its lore is top tier entertainment, to the point where it sometimes overshadowed all the side storylines in season 1 when focus was placed elsewhere. But where the show stalled or fell short in terms of action or plot development in its first season, season 2 delivered a much more balanced and refined mission objective.

It was a heaps better than the last season in terms of pacing and combat, epic gore, and romance. Furthermore everything felt SO BIG and detrimental to the plot. It genuinely felt like the few criticisms that befell season 1 were course corrected for the latest season, and that's a sign of a great show runner and creator with a fantastic writers room to back him up.

This show is fresher than fresh and against all odds, it's taking the internet by storm! The fact that the series managed to hold audience attention with such complete lack of support from Netflix in terms of promotional budgeting, to the point where the neglect almost seems deliberate as a means to self-sabotage it's own creation, says a lot about the significance Warrior Nun holds in the fantasy genre as well as geek culture in general. It also speaks to the loyal devoted fan base diligently fighting for a renewal.

Warrior Nun deserves a season 3.
