Good evening, kindred spirits! If you're looking for a show that's darker than a Transylvanian castle at midnight, then "What We Do in the Shadows" is the one for you. This show has more bite than a pack of wolves, and more laughs than a corpse at a funeral. The characters are like the lords of the undead, with more charm than a Nosferatu on a first date. And the writing? It's like the Book of the Dead, but with more "ha-ha!" The dialogue is so good, you'll be quoting it to your ghouls faster than you can say "I vant to suck your blood." And the bad guys? They're like something out of a Bram Stoker novel. They're sneaky, they're slimy, and they're more dangerous than a stake through the heart. But don't worry, the good guys have got some serious fangs. They're like the Dracula of old, with more wit than a Shakespearean tragedy. Whether you're a fan of the undead or just like to watch people squirm, "What We Do in the Shadows" is the perfect show for you. So sharpen your fangs, put on your cape, and get ready to feast. Just don't forget to invite us in when you leave the crypt.

I know that I'm certainly in the very small minority that doesn't understand all the hype and very extreme love of this show. I'm probably in a smaller minority that doesn't find it that funny, also. I truly don't understand what's so great about it. At its best, it's enjoyable, at least. At its worst, which is more frequent, it's mostly boring.

And on a bigger scale, it is rarely funny. Maybe a lot of the jokes or humor fly over my head, or maybe I genuinely don't find it funny, most of the time. At best, the only saving grace of this show is that it mostly manages to entertain and never gets too boring. Other than that, it doesn't seem like the rare, phenomenal show that it has been treated as and came along that is loved by the masses and is deserving of that. It's just...a, a show, like any other. A hit or miss. And for some odd reason, this one hit the jackpot, maybe to a greater extent than what has ever been achieved before, for shows like this.

And just for the sake of context, on top of my rating (7 out of 10) of the show, since this is the internet and people get offended for the heck of it, this is how I feel but I don't hate the show. I'm entertained by it, although there are boring/less entertaining bits throughout it. That has yet to change, and I don't think it will. But I do think this is the type of show to take a break from watching, for a little while, now and then, even when it is airing, to enjoy it to the fullest possible capacity.

"What We Do In The Shadows" is a series knock off of the rather eccentric comedy of the same name from 2014.

This time the series moves from New Zealand to the USA. No doubt looking to tap into the much bigger US audience. That said, its cast is predominantly English and it employs Kiwi talent in the production, from the original film.

Its not a bad move but just like the original film I'd suggest its humour will either appeal to you or it won't. I like things a little off beat and deadpan but I honestly struggled to find the first two episodes funny.

For me I'd describe this series as more "interesting" than amusing. Its a novel idea that not entirely new. There are other series in a similar vein, such as "Being Human".

That said this series is different enough to merit attention.Particularly the vampires often absurd lack of self awareness of how much the world has changed around them. Their longevity hasn't made them wiser its simply made them old and anachronistic.

As it stands a decent effort I rate a 6/10.

I think what this show does is pretty much unheard of? An adaptation of a film which takes place in the same universe with an entirely different cast of characters, made in another country, but by the same original creators. And it's not just good, it's not even just on par with the movie... I think, at points, it's probably better.

The first season certainly borrowed a lot of beats from the film, and even Nandor felt a bit too familiar at times (he initially struck me as a combination of Taika and Jermaine's original characters), but it still retained its own identity. By the time the second season rolls around, though, the Shadows series has really stretched its legs and transformed into its own manic beast. The plots are much more original and fun, and I can't stress how perfect the casting and writing is for the characters (especially Nadja and Lazlo. Every time they open their mouths, it's inspired). Unfortunately the latter half of the second season starts to shift in a different direction, which I can only describe as less funny. That's a very subjective criticism but something in the writing definitely changes (as things do when a comedy starts getting more wacky) and it just becomes a show I'm less amused by.

Still, for the most part at least I've been very happy and impressed by my time with this show. The only thing left I could ask from it is that the creators have the strength to end it once they feel the idea has run its course. Personally I probably won't check out season 3 because it already feels like they're kinda running out of ideas, and it would be a shame to see this one peter out into mediocrity.
