I love big mechs and magic as much as the next guy but I really wish they would have kept them out of this one.

Even without a lot of historical facts there is enough here to tell a really interesting realistic story similar to Vinland Saga. But they went a different route. One that I personally don't like at all.

The music is dope tough.

@jshwlr It feels like they had no confidence in the concept

@jshwlr I agree with you... I think it would be more coherent without the magic and mech...Vinland Saga is really a wonderful anime, I just remember I have not finished.

Man I really really wanted to like this one, especially since flylo was apart of it. But it was an absolute mess. The story had no structure and was rushed. I didn’t care about any of the characters. Lateef was pretty awful at voice acting as well. Absolutely no emotion. The animation was just bland and bad, especially that opening scene. Only 6 episodes as well? Netflix failed yet again at an anime.

The music was dope though, did it fit the scenes? Not really.

Nonsensical magic + mechas + poor storytelling = Yasuke.

To think I had big expectations for this one and I took me almost a month to watch it complete. Don't waist your time with this.

I had high expectation about this anime, but it didn't live up to it. What I wanted was historical drama, but what I've got was magical mecha fighting cartoon.
I am not against magic or mecha, but in this case they were definitely unnecessary.
The only thing that was okay in this show was animation, everything else is just bad: voice acting (unrealistic and emotionless), plot pacing (overly fast, they told almost nothing about heroes, you don't have time to feel anything for them), dialogs are random...

Overall it feels like cheap anime with big budget. I regret not reading comments before diving into this.

Watched two episodes and it’s disgusting to be honest. What the fuck. Mechas? Fucking magic? I thought this was supposed to be a historical retelling of the story??? Honestly it’s ridiculous so far. Had they not promoted it as Yasuke’s “true” story, it would have been fine but they fucked it up, with random insults of other countries.

Watchable. It reminds me of Castlevania. The whole season looks like an extended pilot. Opening music is totally off point.

It's a pretty show, and it's a fast one. Fast in a more negative way I would say. Usually I am the type of watcher that easily fills in gaps and connects with characters quickly, but I was struggling with this one. Yasuke only has six episodes to flesh their characters out, and half of it is spent flashing back to Yasuke's past. Not necessarily a bad thing, but don't expect me to connect with any of the new characters you introduce in the present.

Really intriguing world that keeps you wondering how all these elements came together. Looking for the hints and clues they drop. I am worried that the show is too short/fast to fully develop all that potential, though.

Speaking about my first-full watch, Yasuke was unfortunately not a memorable show from my experience. There are only 6 episodes, but even then, I still didn't have a strong urge to finish it quickly in a good & desirable way. If I remember correctly, I started watching then paused after a few episodes, thought about completely dropping it, but ultimately finished the show 2 months later...

I wasn't completely invested in the story and any characters either. Even the main character & young girl's relationship wasn't engaging as other similar "protector/father figure to a young girl" story lines. The main character seems like a good guy but not very interesting. There were different ideas that ended feeling out of place instead of fitting well. There were some interesting, cool scenes and animations, but overall, Yasuke was not a very entertaining show in my opinion.

I'd recommend 1 or 2 episodes and then see how you feel after that. Maybe you'll end up enjoying it more me.
