This is essentially a story about how Wallander became and earned his chops as a detective. The biggest issue i have with this is that this appears to be happening in the now where the actual original Wallander series already happened in the past - just a little odd time-juxtaposition going on here.

Yes I thought that was odd too, but I guess it's cheaper to film 'now' than 'period' plus, if they're aiming it at the US market they won't know the original...

As a big fan of the original Wallander I must say that I really enjoyed this first season. Okay, it’s not even close to the original (but no series can imo) but as I said: I liked it. And if watched closely you can even see the characteristics of the later so famous old Wallander.

It's enjoyable, I understand the low ratings, but for me the biggest bummer was the
plain ending, which did not really grasp me, it might as well pass as an ending of an ordinary episode.
So Boring!. It feels like I’ve seen over a dozen series with the same mediocre storyline.

[Netflix] The reference to the character created by Henning Mankell is just marketing. There is little or nothing of Wallander, whose youth is occasionally mentioned in the novels, to which there is no reference in the show. Regardless of the anachronism of setting the action in the present, it is a less "Nordic" (the characters speak English) and less "noir" than usual Nordic noir, conventional and frankly boring.

Where the most of human beings read "Young Wallander", the actor playing Wallander reads "Expressionless Robotic Wallander".
