I didn't even know there is an original version of this movie. Regardless, I'm disappointed in HBO Max. This movie and A Hollywood Christmas and maybe many other are simply disappointing. Such poor productions. I'd rather re-watch Six Feet Under which is a great show.

Don’t even bother with this but there’s a reason the original has a tradition of playing all Christmas Day on TBS every year — It’s a Christmas classic.

It’s true there’s some racist characterizations, and not to make excuses for it, but it is a film made in the early 80’a depicting middle America in the 40’s.

This should have never been conceived. I felt embarrassed for all of the actors.

I knew going in that A Christmas Story Christmas sans Darren McGavin couldn't possibly live up to the original. Let's face it. For all the fondness I and many other people have for the original, from an acting standpoint, McGavin gave that movie an enduring charm that couldn't be topped with any subsequent reboots. That said, this was a noble attempt to bring back the magic of the original. Peter Billingsley and the supporting cast did as good of a job as could be expected, and the result was a touching homage to the original and in storyline, to Old Man Parker.

I love this “sequel”. It’s a perfect ending for all the characters and the ending makes me tear up every time.

Film 86 (Goal: 300) of 2024

I really liked the original A Christmas Story. It had a unique style in it's delivery and presentation that set it apart from anything I had seen before. It's story felt like the quintessential coming of age Christmas, and while not being American (and lacking certain things that make a typical American Christmas) I still could relate.

A Christmas Story Christmas is one of the better many decades later sequels I can recall, and has appeared to go under the radar. It maintains many of the qualities in storytelling that the original had, while also providing many nods and winks to it's predecessor. It's never going to be the classic that many consider the original, but it's a well written, enjoyable follow-up that seems to have heart behind it.

A *true* sequel to a movie that got an awful sequel that didn't need a sequel. This time, the sequel is good. It has lots of the original cast, original charm, and satisfies as a Christmas film. It is far from perfect, and very few people will prefer the original to this one...but it was good.

Rating: 3/5 - 7.5/10 - Worth Watching

It's a bold move to make a belated sequel to an evergreen Christmas classic but the maker's of this movie managed to deliver something decent. It's not going to be a festive classic but this is far better than I expected.

I was not too sure going into this considering how big a hit the first one was. But I think they pulled it off. This follow-up kept lots of the innocence and charm of the first movie. But it does rely a lot on nostalgia.

This is definitely a good pairing with the original for the holidays.

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

As someone who hates the original I had only bad expectations for this movie. Much to my surprise however it was a heartfelt, often funny film that handled callbacks very well. There was no annoying stuff like the original and brought back some of the magic of christmasfilms from yore. And that ending... nicely done. Nicely done indeed.

I wasn't expecting much, but I think this was better than I would have expected. It felt like a natural sequel instead of the typical "let's just remake the original" christmas sequel you usually see. There are of course callbacks to the original, but they felt more natural instead of just constantly trying to recreate what the original did, and there was enough new about it for it to stand on its own. I thought it was enjoyable. Definitely worth checking out for any fan of the original.

A loving tribute to the original, _A Christmas Story Christmas_ is a heartwarming and magical family film. All grown up now, Ralphie Parker takes his wife and children back to his hometown to be with his mother for Christmas following the death of his father, and tries to give them a perfect Christmas the way his father used to do for him. Peter Billingsley reprises his role as Ralphie and is joined by Erinn Hayes and Julie Hagerty. And there are several cameos by other original cast members, including Scott Schwartz, R.D. Robb, and Zack Ward. Co-written by Billingsley, the film does a good job at honoring and calling back to the first film without feeling forced or disingenuous, and the comedy is well-done, with some clever satire about the holidays. _A Christmas Story Christmas_ is a worthy sequel that captures a bit of the magic that made the original a beloved classic.

It’s not about beating the original and its not even trying to beat the original. Its about the memories and the nostalgia if you grew up with the original.
There’s been sequels without the original actors back, this is definitely better and funnier than those.

It was honestly a struggle to get through this, and it definitely WILL NOT be a Christmas tradition going forward. We love the original and watch it every year while opening gifts, but this is just a not so subtle regurgitation of the same bits and jokes. Overall, disappointing.
