Have you ever watched a Fulci zombie movie and thought "this needs to be worse on every level, but still be kind of watchable?" No? Too bad, this movie exists despite your standards.
So, saying _Burial Ground_ is bad is an understatement, though somehow it manages to hit the bullseye just as often as it misses the target completely. Truly a masterpiece that needs to be studied in film school as a reminder of what not to do. Horror fans will understand, this movie is full of all the terrible horror cliches, to the point where it felt like parody as times.
This has to be the only zombie movie I have seen where the zombies are smarter than the people. Seriously, they are able to outsmart them at every turn.
As for our... protagonists... the group of people we have to deal with on this ride, there are only three I will talk about. First, Janet: terminally stupid, like she needs an award for dumbest character in a horror movie. The acting overall is bad here, but she manages to upstage - downstage, if that's a word - everyone else. The worst part may be having to hear her scream - look, I know this is an Italian movie, so I am talking about whoever was her voiceover; someone needed to tell her there is a difference between screams of terror, and moans of ecstasy.
The next two will be mentioned in tandem, Michael, and his mom, Evelyn. Look, I don't get what was going on there. Apparently Michael wanted some of mommy's milk, if you know what I mean. Since the role called for... uncomfortable moments between the two, the dude who plays Michael is clearly a small adult portraying a young boy. Oddly makes it even more creepy.
Look, this movie is insane. I don't know what the writer was thinking here.
I know I mentioned Fulci already, but seriously the movie straight-up rips-off scenes from his films. If you've seen _Zombie_ (1980), you'll know what I mean. Also, they had a scene similar to the notorious drill scene from _The Gates of Hell_ (1980), however they must not have had it in the budget to pay off the kill - actually, upon further research, _The Gates of Hell_ was made in 1980, but not released until 1983, so maybe Fulci wanted to show Bianchi how it's done.
So, yeah, the movie is crazy, front loaded with nudity, has bad acting, cheap effects, the characters stand there and scream instead of running from zombies who move slower than sleeping turtles, but it's still kind of good.
I'd recommend this to fans of Italian zombie movies, specifically. Though, if you just dig so-bad-it's-good movies in general, this is a must watch.

Wow... Just... wow. And I don't mean that in a good way. Roll the dice and be prepared to lose big with this stinker. I watched this after seeing it mentioned in another review; the review had mentioned _Burial Ground: The Nights of Terror_ as being possibly the only movie that was gorier and more gruesome than _Zombie Flesh-Eaters_ (which I had just finished). Naturally, I was curious to see a zombie film that could be any more grotesque than _Zombie Flesh-Eaters_ so I gave this one a watch tonight. What a humongous disappointment. Let me just say this about _Burial Ground: The Nights of Terror_ : If you watch it **ONLY** for the gore, you probably won't be too disappointed. Lots of red paint, pasta, and sausage rolls were used here for maximum effect, although the producers really stopped short (IMO) of producing the gut-wrenching effects of _Day of the Dead_ or even Lucio Fulci's _City of the Living Dead (The Gates of Hell)_ . There were a lot of gruesome scenes where "intestines" were being pulled apart and eaten but - unlike _Day of the Dead_ you never actually saw the victims being shredded while still alive. There were extreme close-ups where you saw a bunch of red goo surrounded by maybe the hint of a blouse or shirt - to indicate some poor sap's midsection being ripped asunder - but overall, the "gore" effect was sorely dampened. The story…well…WHAT story? There was no story. I can assure you that if you don't read the movie's synopsis beforehand, you'll have absolutely no clue what this was about. A group of people show up at some (what appears to be completely abandoned) Italian tudor, only to find out their "host" has disappeared but _"will probably see you all in the morning"_ so they make themselves at home...and zombies start appearing. Now, I love cheesy Italian zombie flicks and the ever-present "frozen in place with terrified eyes and mouth agape" (as opposed to running for your life and/or simultaneously going stark raving lunatic) but this... I'm sorry, but this one was just TOO much. There was never - NEVER - an attempt to make a mad dash for the vehicles (they had all arrived at the front gate in cars, and driven them onto the grounds, so those vehicles were **somewhere** nearby) and escape, and hardly any attempts to even barricade themselves into an almost fortress-like tudor. Come on: there _has_ to be at least a tiny bit of common sense/reality in these or they just come across as adolescent school plays. Perhaps the most off-putting (and I still can't make any sense of this; it was just **WRONG**) feature of this entire story was the weird use of a midget in the role of a child. I honestly don't know what they were going for here; it was obvious this "boy" wasn't a "boy", but the producers weren't going for "teenager" either, with the continued _"Mommy! Mommy!"_ stuff, either. The incestuous relationship that ultimately culminated in this "little boy" feeling up his own mom... That was just .... If you're a pervert that gets into that kind of sick stuff, don't bother watching just for that because there was NOTHING that even remotely seemed "sexual" about it. It was just disgusting, and added absolutely NOTHING to the already-had-nothing-to-begin-with story. I could go on about the endless plot holes and the lack of a real conclusion (did they max out their budget without realizing it and have to suddenly stop?) but let me just suffice to repeat what I said at the beginning of this review: Roll the dice and be prepared to lose big with this stinker. The ONLY good I could see in this was (1) many of the zombies were amazingly done; makeup was top-notch here. (2) If you're really into gruesome, this will probably knock your socks off. Otherwise, this has to be one of the worst movies I've ever sat through.
