The Gardner family moves to a remote farmstead in rural New England to escape the hustle of the 21st century. They are busy adapting to their new life when a meteorite crashes into their front yard, melts into the earth, and infects both the land and the properties of space-time with a strange, otherworldly colour. To their horror, the family discovers this alien force is gradually mutating every life form that it touches—including them.

Makeing a Lovecraftian inspired movie is though, only some of the best filmakers in history have managed to pull it off, one of the most succesful clearly being John Carpenter. It's from Carpenter that Richard Stanley draws most of his inspiration, both in pacing and directing, while still maintaning his very specific style that put him on the map in the 90ies with "Hardware". Couple this with the always bizarre, and charismatic, Nicolas Cage and you have a power duo that commands attention. In this they succeded fully, helped by a stunning photography and very talented - and young! - ensemble cast. Evrey part of this movie manages to recreate that feeling of utter cosmic dread that is the center of Lovecraft's fiction and that's so difficult to put to film.

If you are a Nicolas Cage fan you won't be disappointed. Having him and Director Richard Stanley work together on a Lovecraft Story is definitely a must see. I mean come on, Nicolas Cage milking an alpaca! This film will easily qualify to be one of those top Horror Cult Classic down the road.

Pretty bland Stephen King'ish short story with no real surprises. I couldn't really concentrate on the movie because the only thing i could think of is that i have seen this before made with much better execution. Pretty good acting but the actors unfortunately didn't get much to work with. Verdict: Pretty much a waste of time, not because its bad but because it's as bland as diluted water. Didn't make me feel or think.

_Colour Out of Space_ was one of the biggest joys that 2019 cinema brought me. I was genuinely thrilled by it from about fifteen minutes in right up until the credits rolled. Not to mention for several days afterwards.

_Final rating:★★★★ - Very strong appeal. A personal favourite._

A thoughtless adaption of one of Lovecraft's most recognizable stories. The film maker clearly failed to grasp the themes of Lovecraft and only took notice of the most obvious surface elements.
