Catching this before it leaves Shudder. An atmospheric dark fantasy set in rural Ireland. It's hauntingly beautiful and it plays effectively through the themes of unresolved guilt and trauma. Leaning more into the dreamlike and hallucinatory elements and containing bits of Irish urban legend, the film provides a compelling mystery that is immersive as it is eminently watchable, with ending that is devastating and profoundly moving, though it is sometimes flawed with clunky dialogue. Some people may find it too slow and vague, but I personally like it.

A generic title for a less than generic film. It’s an intriguing horror piece with some odd moments and a fairly original plot.

I won’t waste my breath telling you what a piece of crap this is but don’t waste your time watching it either. Everyone is saying Michael Tully is a genius I’d like to slap him around for the 86 minute I lost watching this piece of crap.

After watching a bunch of terrible movies, this one was quote refreshing. The movie is set in a mansion surrounded by a forest, where an American artist visits an old couple after bring contacted regarding an art piece she made. The tone of the movie is quite sombre and the style it was shot reminds me of old movies from the 1980s, even in the present era. You can really pick up the contrast between the artist's life in America and the time in Ireland.
I enjoyed it and the ending, I thought, was pretty good. It has a bit of the portrait of dorian Gray I think in that
once the old man paints his own portrait and disappears, everyone that had been trapped by his painting was released. Like how when Dorian sees his portrait, all the years that have passed become part of the painting.
Don't let the movie poster fool you: it's not your average horror movie. Actually it's not even a horror movie, it's more of a surreal thriller similar to "The lovely bones".
"Don't leave home" has a very mystical tone, also thanks to the soundtrack which at first I thought didn't match the film. On the contrary, it does match it very well when you get where the plot is going. The cast is small but very talented, especially Lalor Roddy and Helena Bereen (they were also in "The devil's doorway" together, Roddy again casted as a priest). However I have to say the plot is a bit weird and the ending leaves you with many unanswered questions.
I did enjoy the movie, but the pace is very slow and quiet. I don't recommend it if you are used to jumpscares, fast scenes and action. You'll probably get bored after the first half.
But overall for me it was very relaxing!
