A ship runs aground on a mysterious atoll leading to an investigation by insurance representative Kusanagi, who discovers an ancient bead that he gives to his daughter Asagi. Meanwhile, ornithologist Nagamine investigates reports of a new species of large bird named Gyaos. As the Gyaos begin to attack, an ancient guardian with a bond to Asagi emerges.

Yeah, accidentally watched Gamera 2 before this one, after seeing this I now get some more of that story. This flick rocked. Gamera is awesome. Giant flying turtle monster fights for Tokyo vs giant man eating bird monsters. Lots of destruction, bullet trains, Tokyo Dome, and neat stuff.

_Gamera: Guardian of the Universe_ (1995) takes on a more serious tone, cooler designs, some nice visuals, similar to Heisei era Godzilla

The original run of Gamera films of the '60s and '70s have always been second-rate compared to the Godzilla films they mimicked.
